Hi Andrew - how are you finding the quality difference between the G9II and S5II? I have a G9 with 10 lenses and canon 5DIII with 5. I love the size of the G9 but in contemplating the upgrade path the S5II is tempting noting the EF lenses can be adapted. I find I do get annoyed with the noise in the G9 files and use the denoising tool in Lightroom. It is effective but seems to add a touch of the digital look less natural. Welcome your thoughts! PS - I find there has been a noticeable bump up in the quality of your photos (colour, DR, exposure etc) since you have been using both the G9II and S5II. Do you think so too?

No question the new cameras have helped with my quality. The full-frame of the S5ii has its obvious advantages, and the G9ii is both higher in resolution and lower in noise - I reckon about two stops better than the G9 original. I feel that both cameras give me better colour in AWB and straight out of camera...earlier models skewed a little towards magenta and always needed some colour correction. Whether you step up to the G9ii (with your 10 lenses) or the S5ii, you would be happy with the choice. Personally I rely on the 2x crop factor of the G9ii for the majority of my wildlife...also helped by huge improvements in the AF detection settings. I also use it for macro. But the S5ii is my go-to for landscapes, night photography etc. Because I do so much wildlife, if I had to pick just one it would still be the G9ii. Happily I have the luxury of being able to run both.

@ Hi Andrew - thanks for your thorough and prompt reply. It is interesting you confirm have seen the image quality jump. 2 stops improvement in noise over the G9 is significant! I think ideal scenario however is, as you say, to have both! If I were to do that I think I would want to have one smaller form camera (eg GX9II… which doesn’t exist but hopefully will one day). The S9 doesn’t quite hit the mark for me (no EVF and no weather sealing). This is the dilemma which keeps me sitting on the fence! I’m not a wildlife photographer but have a 75-300mm Olympus. A slow but amazing value lens. Interestingly I find the photos taken by that lens are often the most unique simply because an iPhone and normal camera just can’t deliver anywhere near that focal length. So I find myself typically carrying the G9 with an Oly 12-40mm pro, the Oly 75-300mm, the PL25mm f1.4 and, if needed, the Oly 75mm f1.8. A GX9II would complement that kit well. I might just have to wait some more and see if they ever release a GX9II! Alternatively, as the pricing in AUD sees the G9II slightly more expensive than the S5II, the latter is currently more appealing so the Black Friday sales might be an opportunity to splurge. All the best.

Hey, what L bracket are you using for your G9 II? Thank you
