A lot of ice specialists here. 😀Many are close, but still forget the most important part. Since I have been a producer of packaged ice and also of ice sculpting blocks I can tell you that impurities are something you want to have out of the ice, that is true, however clear ice is obtained by continuously keeping the water in motion as it freezes. That way you don't get any trapped air and that is exactly what causes the non clear ice. Since it is difficult to make ice cubes at home where the water is in motion you basically never get clear ice. In order to get the air out you would have to use a vertical ice cube machine where water runs from the top to the bottom, thereby enabling the freezing from within (to the outside) and no air can be trapped inside, thus creating clear ice.

Thank you so much for sharing 🙏💙
@mungo713625 күн бұрын
Sorry to doubt it - how much air bubbles you have in still water? None. On contrary - your moving water can bring them in. I guess that truth is elsewhere - in continuity. When you let water to freeze on itself you have no control where and how freezing happens and you do not get continuous ice monoblock / crystal. And those discontinuity causes light to be reflected inside or travel in other paths and that is the reason for those visual defects. On the other hand when you leave cold water to move over the surface and deposit there, you are continuously building your ice monoblock, thus light travels in homogeneous matter. Btw., glass for optical purposes (lenses and so on) is made in similar controlled way without disturbances
@clifbradley6 ай бұрын
Clear ice is made with filtered water and the water is filmed over an existing core of ice and because the ice is constantly cleaned and forms in layers, the ice is clear. Plus the cold plates to freeze the ice are placed with the coldest plates placed on the bottom and the top plates are slightly warmer so the cold starts freezing from the bottom up, then that switches and the top becomes colder than the bottom.
@NautiStyles6 ай бұрын
🥶🥶🥶
@noahkohn93506 ай бұрын
You don’t need filtered or purified water to make clear ice because the directional freezing (that you described correctly) pushes out the impurities. That leads to the two main benefits of clear ice: it melts more slowly, and your drink tastes better when the ice does melt.
@davedavids96196 ай бұрын
You are close, but still forget the most important part: the water has to keep in motion in order to freeze from the core to the outside. It is the motion that creates the clear ice, because if prevents air to be trapped inside. Even if you would use completely filtered water and freeze that in a normal way, it would still be not clear ice. Only the motion of the water and then the freezing up from within, creates the clear ice.
@OliverMoore19736 ай бұрын

What a fantastic yacht. Hard to believe it’s only a few years away from a 1/4 century old. 1. A clear ice maker does produce ice without air inclusion, which leads to longer lasting ice 2. I believe that was a synchronization control which works with the engines

the ice does not "last longer" that's silly. It may be ever so slightly denser but you'd never notice the difference in a drink. And you still get the exact same meltoff to cool a drink as non-clear ice at the same temperature. The laws of physics governing ice at a macro level are pretty simple. It being clear doesn't change them.
@bobuncle87046 ай бұрын
@@zachansen8293 then all the information and tests run by multiple places must be wrong. My bad. I’ll reach out to the 10 items I checked and tell them they’re silly. Their testing showed that the air bubble inclusion in equally sized cubes of ice, led to comparatively smaller amounts of ice per given volume, leading to slower melting for the clear ice. But I can pass on the fact that they’re wrong so that they can correct their studies. Cheers. Have a good day
@zachansen82936 ай бұрын
@@bobuncle8704 The melt is the same, there's just slightly more ice per volume. Do you not understand basic physics? yes, the ice is ever so slightly denser, but you could just put *slightly* more ice in and get exactly the same drink. it's not a meaningful amount so any claim that it's better is misleading. The only thing that matters for the taste of a drink is the amount of melt per cold. In that regard all ice of the same temperature is exactly the same. Clear ice just looks neat.

She very specious plenty of room to move around internally and externally. Storage, storage, storage and more storage inside and outside. You could live permanently on her, staying in one port or wandering around ports, or long term or weekends holidays. She is versatile, timeless, and holds her own in style and decor woth her younger sisters. 500 nautical miles at 18 knots, not bad I'm presuming that if you drop the knots you could extend the miles. Clear ice freezes from the top down. I make it at home in an Igloo cooler. Fill it leave the top off and let in the freeze for 20-24 hours... no longer as you don't want int to freeze solid. It should have about 1" to 1 1/2" of water in the bottom. I'll then remove it and cut/chop it into 2" cubes. Put in a container or zip lock bag.

4 crew on an 88' yacht is insane. I thought the 5 crew cabin spots on the Sirena 87 was insane. There is a Youtubing stewardess who works on an Azimut 90 and they carry 6 crew. The family insist on maximum service, snacks constantly and they frequently split up the family so that some go fishing and they take 2 or 3 crew with them on the fishing boat and then the other 3 stay on the main yacht. That is just nuts.

I really love her sounds of joy and awe. Performance worthy of an Oscar! Has this boat done it's 5 year survey? Is it ABS certified?

Beautiful boat! Not crazy about the only real helm being out in the weather. Also wonder how much ummm stuff was covered up by all that fresh white paint in the engine room.

engine controls, sync so rpm port, stbd match each other automatically, and low RPM is to help maneuvering around docking procedures, but prolong low rpm can end up over heating engine with reduced raw water flow.

I think we need a video covering docking fees and expected maintenance costs. I was surprised to see docking fees for live aboards in florida stretching to many thousands of dollars per month... Yikes. That's a very nice yacht... Great video as usual.
