Garbage disposals started to gain popularity in the United States during the 1950s and 1960s1. Although the first electric home garbage disposal was introduced in 1927 by John W. Hammes, it wasn’t until the post-World War II era that they became widely available and commonly used in households

So, being an older person, I was going to university when this yacht was built, and had a job at a swank (expensive) yacht club in a suburb of NYC. Some of the richest people in the world live in NYC, yet at that time, there were almost no motor yachts of this size plying the waters of Long Island Sound. Most of the really big yachts were in just 2 states, Florida and California. I wonder if that has changed. Of course, the main reason is that the yachting season here in New York is just three and a half months. The boats go into the water in late May, and are hauled out again in September. By the way, the Hukins corp built fast attack water craft for the navy in WWII. So that would explain the yachts somewhat unusual layout of the yacht-and it's fast speed.!

Thank you so much for sharing that story...I am certain things have changed a lot in the past few years, as there are always a lot of generational changes...nowadays you have a lot of younger wealthy people with different taste and priorities and boats/yachts might be more on their agenda than other things

I was born in Miami in 1940 when places like the Grove were sleepy fishing towns. My dad commercial fished so I was on a boat at the ripe old age of two weeks. I remember the iceman bringing ice for the icebox 2 or 3 times a week. Boats have come a long way since those days. We would have thought you were nuts if you told us that you could program your boat to go to the islands and it would steer itself and all you had to do was maybe make a few corrections. Something to consider concerning appliances would be that modern has nothing to do with life span. The refrigerator and washer and dryer already on this yacht will outlast it's modern counterparts. The more electronics incorporated on a device is just that much more that can go wrong. I'd rather replace a gasket because it's old then try to troubleshoot an electronic glitch. Notice the original shower handles and shower head that still work. Ask yourself...do you think something purchased today will still be working 32 years later?

More like the Fеrrаrі of the sea than the jeep. The Japanese had a hard time aiming on them at first, because they couldn't and didn't believe a boat that size was capable of 45-50 knots. Huckins was one of the two PT boat builders in WW2, and thought to be the better of the two. And it does look like a WW2 PT boat, because they kept the same basic hull design. If it works, why change it??? Most "modern" 78 footers require two to three times the power to hit a 30 knot top speed. And, with that power, this "yacht" would be capable of those 45-50 knot top speeds, or even more!!! Huckins also kept the wood construction up into the 70's, before finally switching over the fiberglass. In the 40's 50's 60's and 70's they built the best, fastest, and most sought after sportfisherman available. And, they are STILL highly sought after, even the wood ones!!!

It seems that older yachts of a given size tend to have a more narrow beam as compared to more contemporary builds of comparable dimensions. At least, that is the impression I get having watched a plethora of these videos, yours, and those from other content creators that have a similar channel focus.

My input disappeared again😅 Agree these older boats are fantastic with thier lines. Classics never go out of style. 30 knots with those 2 engines. Wholly cow. Could use a bit of spit and polish , but what. Beauty. We lived just down the road from the builders yard. Very unassuming, built boats to last Your boat name. Haters ate going to hate. You are floating the note, so the name you choose is all up to you.❤🤗 It does in a way represent where she was born, the entire region of the Mediterranean is chocked full of Greek influences Even though turkey would dis agree.🫣 Thank you for showing a great classic lady, the boat🎉 She is a beauty The view rico had at 26:15❤❤❤ Engine room is very smart. Big v drives and placing engines aft🤗 Did they say propeller size? I went to school on these marine engines. That hp number is conservative, plus the twist the world torque. Can't tell from the video, but the v drive transmissions, have trolling or low speed valves I bet she has very very impressive. Performance

Garbage disposal is older than i thought. Invented 1927, patented in 1935, first available 1940. I remembered them in the 1960s
