Thank you to the many doctors and nurses who travel to the remote clinics and small hospitals on the Navajo nation. These drives are super long like 3 to 4 hours. Doctor Sriram is correct. Many would have to be flown to Flagstaff. Phoenix. Albuquerque.

It is so sad that the US would abandon the Native Nations of Tribes in this time, but I am not surprised. 173 years ago the Choctaw donated $170 of their own to the aid of Irish people during the Great Hunger in 1847. This was a short time after the Trail of Tears, where thousands from various tribes died on the way to their 'new home' and even after this and still suffering the effects of this years to come, they still found it in their hearts and showed the Irish people kinship and a common bond and gave what little they did to the Irish suffering from famine and starvation. Instead of their own needs they decided to look outward out of sympathy and empathy and out of an incredible understanding of experiences. There is currently a Go-Fund me campaign going on to fund and get much needed medicine, food, water, portable power supplies to the Choctaw and Hopi peoples. Currently, it has raised $2.4 million out of $3 million and thousands of the donations have come from Ireland, a lot of the comments state the reasoning behind their donation is due to the Navajo, amongst others, were there for the Irish in dire need and this is a way of saying thankyou all those years ago. Quite touching when I heard about it.

It is extremely depressing to see that the health situation is underfunded in the Navajo nation. .Furthermore the lack of fresh water supply is another testamonial to the fact that the US must adopt a universal standard of infrastructure and a health system that provides healhcare for all Americans. Covid 19 hopefully will catalyze change, particularly for the native American people who symbolize the great heritage and history of America. This is shocking given that the USA claims to be the richest country in the world.

This story made me cry my eyes out... it's shamefully disgusting that after hundreds of years, the American government has still never repented for the genocide of the native people on this continent... to the point where now, the chronic abuse and neglect of these oppressed people has made them especially vulnerable to the current pandemic. It's not even neglect anymore because it's willful disregard and failure to provide the bare minimum of social infrastructure, like running water. It's despicable

I thought there was going to be a mention of the sudden donations to the Navajo nation from Ireland as solidarity and blood memeory for the Choctaw's donation of $170 as relief to Ireland during the 1845-1852 Irish Famine, all despite the fact this was ten years after 60,000 Choctaw people being injustly removed from their home in the Trial of Tears.

Sure they are American heroes but in reality they were being used and it killed their many cultural stories and even recordings are not too available and over 2/3rds of the languages are gone for ever and a small portion has been and is being taught now...

It makes sense that poor areas would feel any virus worse because these depressed areas reflect the emotional reality of these people - depressed. Science has proven that when people live in higher emotions such as gratitude, appreciation, care, compassion, and love, their immune response is fully engaged and immunoglobulins are released which are more effective than any flu shot. When people are depressed, sad, angry, and fearful then the immune response is dialed down. THAT is when people look to something outside of them, some exogenous substance to help. How do you feel when you watch the news, for example?

Outside of the obvious info about social distancing etc, how does healthcare stop the spread of infection?
@impresauro3210
@impresauro3210 4 жыл бұрын
having enough personal protective equipment for healthcare personnel is a starter, in an "ideal" world you'd freely distribute those to civilians as well. I mean, if there was a risk of gas attack you'd have the federal gov give gas-masks for people to protect themselves, perhaps... But I'm not sure anymore, maybe they'd tell you to sniff disinfectant instead
@chocomalk
@chocomalk 4 жыл бұрын
@@impresauro3210 The protections are extremely basic and amount to cleanliness and social distancing. You might recall other institutions having a lack of supplies as well. Hospitals are the main place where they need masks and gloves because of population density. If this discussion was about respirators you would have a point but that has nothing to do with spread.
@yoshimansxl
@yoshimansxl 4 жыл бұрын
@@chocomalk Negative pressure rooms to keep the virus in. But a lot of different institutions play a role in getting an epidemic under control. Firstly there are preventative measures such as social distancing and even lock-downs. These help slowing down movement. Then there is the healthcare sector, you need to make sure that people can be tested and treated. This also helps combating the spread in the sense that you isolate sick people out of the population. In addition you want people to get tested and get treatment in the first place so it should be cheap. But some people do not need hospital care, you still need to quarantine those. This is where things such as paid sick leave and social services come in. You do not want sick people to go to work and infect others. So you make sure they have no reason to leave their homes. You also need to trace asymptomatic people. Mass testing in general is good.
