He is a massive inspiration to me. His pre RTJ work on cannibal ox, funcrusher plus and fantastic damage changed the way i see beat making. The way he distorts samples and builds up drum breaks into more complex, dense rhythms always dazzles me. He is just that guy man. Great video!

El-P way underrated as a producer. I remember discovering Co-flow`s Funcrusher Plus vinyl in a basement of a record store I had been working at in the late 90's. 20 something years later and, still relevant.

Yeah, I had my doubts that you could create something that sounds in the ballpark or what El-P does, as I think it’s kind of a hard sound to get right, and an easy one to make a mess of. Once your beat came in, it was nice.
@Sundji
@Sundji Жыл бұрын
The funny part about this, is that I distinctly remember doing stuff like this when I first started making beats but I never knew how to put it together in a way that sounds intelligible. Using random sounds and layering multiple copies of the same synth with weird effects. I think I need to get back to that after spending so much time trying to teach myself how to write melodies and music theory and shit.

Yooo this is really dope, and great tutorial. EL-P is my favorite producer of all time and I have been studying his craft since 1995. I’ve been producing music for over 20 years now, and he is always someone I always look up to for progression in my skills, him Madlib and J.Dilla (RIP) are my inspirations! I especially love when I discover a sample EL-P flipped maybe in Funcrusher Plus or Cold Vein and I get mad like “How the fuck did he do that?” I pick apart his beats like many try to pick apart Aesops lyrics!
