This is so funny: I just bought an expensive new phone, and I really told everybody that the old one didn't work, and I was long time wanted this new and finally...I bought. Feeling bad, because what they gonna think if I have an expensive new phone. Never thought it is a Hungarian thing...

Úgy hangzik, mintha számunkra is a pénznek köze lenne a szerencséhez.

My parents Hungarian immigrants to US...way back in 1949... Visiting Transylvania (1970 as a kid) I was blown away how people (Hungarians) would ask how me much my headband or clothing cost.. People also asked about paychecks... Fast forward to 2010 ..I was not offended when my cousins in Budapest asked how much I made..(Maybe because it was family and there seemed to be no jealousy?)...Looks like Hungarians are becoming more like Americans on that topic the last few years..Also I still have that thing about justifying purchases even though I live here America..possible hereditary thing😑... Just found your channel!

That’s interesting, thank you for sharing! It might have been a little bit different given the times and the situation. I’m sure they were just very excited and interested in any information outside of the country. And I feel like it’s a slightly different feeling asking someone who has experience from another country than your friends from the same country. And welcome here I hope you’ll enjoy the content ☺️

@@uzeelaThe whole point of asking how much things cost,earn...is a quick reality check. If someone likes yours jacket it would ask how much did the person pay for it for if it is within the rage that the person can pay then it would ask where did the person by the jacket...we have some traditions that are strange western like other population especially those living in US,Australia...but they have some traditions that are strange to us as well.
@HungarianwithSziszi
@HungarianwithSziszi 2 ай бұрын
Yes, I think asking how much your jacket was is a bit different from asking about your salary. It can really be about them just liking it and wanting to know if they can buy it too.

@@HungarianwithSziszi I am from Vajdaság and personally haven't come around a situation when someone asked how much do I earn nor the other way around for such things are unusual in the region. As for employers upon advertising a vacant position while not willing say what is the salary for the particular job ...I dont think it is a Hungarian thing but rather a scam that became a norm in Hungar.The reason why the companies do it Hungary is because there are more applicants to a position that are equally quilified the company can simply accept the applicant that is willing to do a job for less money.I as a Hungarian did never experience anything as such in Vajdaság or elsewhere for its simply abusive and doesn't promote competitive between companies but rather lowering the wages of the working force whom as such doesn't know how much they should actually earn with a job position since there is no option to to check the situation on the labour market since its "confidental" and adjusted to a person in a negative sense. To me this thing was and is simply revolting for what would happen if the general public would refuse to pay the price for the produce they are selling in Hungary but rather insist that would would bid and the highest bidder at the moment would by a loaf of bread....

Szia Sziszi!🙂You made me think of a funny meme that I saw years ago, about job interviews.😅 The interviewer asks: "why have You applied for this particular position, at our company..?". And the applicant replies: "you know, I've always been passionate about affording food"😂 The other thing was also very interesting, I mean that people are always ashamed to show when they buy expensive things, or to show that they earn well...I think this is true worlwide, everywhere, and my idea is that it's partially motivated by human nature and partially by superstition.🙂 Maybe i'm wrong, but I believe that people are like scared that if they show their "good luck", then...it will turn to bad luck.🙂 Maybe there is a superstitious subconscious inside us that keeps us from showing wellness, in fear that this current "grace" might be lost.🤔 And also...it comes down to human nature!🙂 I mean: we instinctively think that other people might be envious of our good luck, and You know...envy brings possible bad feelings towards us, bad feelings might develop in bad treatments, bad treatments might have bad consequences, and so on... Basically I think that we naturally tend to "protect" our good luck, hiding it. We unconsciously know that many people might be assholes, and we could become a "persona non grata" in their eyes, showing off fortune or success.🙂Could i be right..?🤔
@HungarianwithSziszi
@HungarianwithSziszi 2 ай бұрын
Szia 🥰 I saw that meme too haha 😄 Yes, there are probably a lot of people like this worldwide but I wouldn’t say this is human nature. I think it depends on a lot of things, culture, upbringing, environment etc. I made some friends in the US who are not full of themselves at all, it doesn’t feel like they’re bragging at all but they’re openly proud of where they are and what they’ve achieved. I’m just saying this is my first experience meeting people with this mentality. I’m sure there are a lot of Americans feeling like the people described in the video too and Hungarians who aren’t afraid of being proud of what they’ve achieved. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts, it’s a very interesting topic, I think ☺️

@@HungarianwithSziszi Yes, that is also true Sziszi!☺I'm sure that it depends a lot on where people was born, how they grew up and first of all on their nature. But i think that many people have this little fear inside, that if they show their fortune, then that might be at risk😅...don't know if it's because of superstition or else.🙂 I'm sure that in US this kind of "worried" mentality is not common, You're right. Maybe that is something more "European" because of our past, even recent past thinking of Hungary, that made our life more troubled. Or maybe in US the just have a more positive and carefree DNA..?☺Very interesting topic, thanks so much for your always fantastic videos!🙏💟
