NAVIGATING OREGON INLET, NORTH CAROLINA IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART!

As seen on the television show "Wicked Tuna", a number of dangerous factors like strong currents, big, breaking waves, and constantly shifting shoals make navigating Oregon Inlet, NC a very dangerous inlet. Like other dangerous and rough inlets in America (Haulover Inlet, Florida, and Columbia River Bar, Washington) transiting Oregon Inlet should only be attempted by professionals. So many ships have wrecked onto the shores of the Outer Banks of North Carolina that the area has earned the title "Graveyard of the Atlantic". Captain Jake safely navigates the beautiful "Espadon" sportfishing yacht through the Bonner Bridge at Oregon Inlet in the Outer banks of North Carolina after a successful day of giant bluefin tuna fishing.

Your idea of "hairy as hell" and the rest of the boating worlds is very different.

There was like 10 feet on each side. Lmao

It's the camera angle. It was actually about 7 feet on each side but the big deal there is that there is about 3 knots of sideways current, and if you slow down or miscalculate, you get slammed into the bridge.

No dude I’ve been there that’s not even nothing we were on the Tar Heel John Bayless was a captain. Now he builds boats. We chartered with John and Lockhart that dayand in 20 foot swells in the inlet and our boat was hitting the bottom of the sandbar I thought we were going to die. Nobody could make it through they were all waiting to see if we could make it in then we came back nobody even went out that day for a couple more hours I have no idea why. Needless to say I was seasick real bad

@@offshoreadventures8262 that’s right when you’re literally looking at 10 to 15 feet of water above you you were dropping into giant swells I saw other boats two behind us they had to back back out they were about to capsize and we were in a 47 foot fishing vessel, John Bayless boat builder he builds 70 to 90 foot boats now. So don’t be a wiseguy when you don’t know what you’re talking about you weren’t there, maybe it wasn’t 20 feet but I play basketball and I can dunk and I can assure you it was way higher than 10 feet. I didn’t have a tape measure.

@@jerrylockhart3069 yeah there’s a zero percent chance you would go out in 20ft seas. They would even risk it. I’ve been out in 8-10 out of Oregon inlet in a 60 footer and turned around. None of those captains would even attempt if it was that big. Do you know the amount of wind it would take to make 20ft seas?

Very dangerous, it’s a lot more than just it appears to the eye on the surface. The tide is always crazy and it’s hard to keep any boat going the direction you want to. My dad with years of experience with boats saw 2 crashes one day here despite it looking “calm”.

Lol. You east coasters. Y’all don’t even deal with crazy swell and tide like us in the Pacific Northwest. When we go out for salmon 5 to 7 ft swell with 10 second intervals is normal. That’s wi though even wind factor. You guys and your little T tops always complaining about foul weather, straight up joke.

You pacific northwest guys fish 3 months per year and your boats are crewed by junkies who wouldnt notice if the boat were upside down, so chill.

We took out the guys from the National Motor Life Boat School at Cape D out in our measly 7 foot surf and their response was "how do y'all do ANYTHING in this shit?!" 7 foot surf with a 7 second (or less) wave period is WAY harder to deal with than 15 footers with a 16 or 17 second waver period. That 10 extra seconds between waves gives you a lot of time to correct and prepare for the next one.
