I've noticed, visiting Phoenix almost monthly since 2015, that traffic is significantly worse (more dense) today than 9 years ago. With the continued increase in population (a lot from the West Coast), one can expect that traffic in The Valley of the Sun will only get progressively more like LA in the upcoming years.

Yes it has. The Arizona Department of transportation is doing a fairly good job of staying in front of it compared to most other cities, but that certainly is a possibility into the future as Phoenix continues to grow. Hopefully it will never be anything like Los Angeles traffic!!🙏
