...and is able to recognize that this is sung by a man who laid himself down like a bridge over troubled water for so many people that surrounded him, and people he met and who were in need. Elvis needed such a bridge but the bridges were always too short and not wide enough to ease his mind and pain for a longer period of time. So he helped himself, as well and as often as he could, by being that bridge for others.

We often drive a wedge when we are sharing the Gospel. She said timing is everything. He is not prideful and boastful. Jumping the gun and laying on scripture out of season (heavy handed, pressure laced altar call) could snap that person off like a twig. She said if you approach a person with the old "one hit wonder" deal (instant change) you better be willing to share the cost. There must be follow through. If there isn't any functionality for development/companionship DO NOT bring His Name into it. She said if you can't deliver, shut your mouth or you'll be responsible for the outcome of your poor stewardship. ------So many things she taught me. Very logical. Down to earth. REAL. I wish she was still alive. She sang "Bridge" while rocking me as a baby. I remember.
@AndieZ4U23 жыл бұрын
That warmed my heart. My Mother was a DEVOUT follower of Jesus Christ. She taught me to reach people through the back door. And that sometimes you don't preach the Word and even mention Him when a person is REALLY in bad shape. She said He demands you focus on the priority, which is the Soul. The brokenness.

Collier uses so many modern technologies that help a lot to do a show and he disguises the original song "Bridge over troubled water". There's no the same feeling, strength, emotions and shades of the Elvis version, even the choirs of Elvis are more genuine. As I was listening to the beginning of the studio version I thought that Jacob was trying to imitate Michael Jackson.

What r u talking about? Of course he could hear himself! What does he need a monitor for in order to hear himself? Makes no sense.
@jarredmarlowe4 жыл бұрын
Steven Yourke In the book “Careless Love - The Unmaking of Elvis Presley” it has interviews with his sound engineers who talk about how he didn’t have any type of monitors until 1971, and when he finally had them the first time, and he heard himself when he was singing See See Rider he turned around and looked at the sound man like a kid in a candy store. Also if he had monitors in 1969 and 1970 in Vegas, where are they at? There is tons of video footage and thousands of photos from all these shows but yet there isn’t a single video or photo with a monitor anywhere in it. Not even on the side of the stage.
@sfmc984 жыл бұрын
@@syourke3 I think you're a little uninformed here. Generally, whenever you go to a concert, you'll see two types of speakers. You've got the ones that face the audience (the PA) and the ones that face the performers (the monitors). The performers can't hear the ones that face away from them, or if they can, its distant and poor quality. The ones on stage allow them to hear well. Nowadays, many performers use ear pieces instead of stage monitors.

To me, this song is about the only friend we have who will never let us down - Jesus Christ. He is the bridge , the helping hand, someone always standing near when we are down and feel so small. Last Friday evening I was travelling by car. I felt lonely, lost, small. I have problems with my teenage daughter and worry about her a lot. I didn't know what to play in the car and my hand fished out among other cd discs Elvis Inspirational. I listened to it many times but Last Friday was different. I listened to Like a Bridge Over Water and I started crying. I cried and drove and finally understood what the words mean. After listening to it I felt warmth in my heart and said: Thank you ,Jesus. Thank you for this song, for Elvis, for strength it gave me.Yeah, you are the only true friend.

@@debbieg217 I have seen these rumours before but he loved his little girl so much and would not have ever left her and allowed her to mourn for him! @@rachgregory3892 agreed! I know people desperately want to believe he is alive but what they don't fully realise is that Elvis is still with us. Not in a physical disguise as another person but his spirit is still very much part of this world. Every time we play his music, watch his films, 'attend' his live performances we are continuing to mark his territory on this world. The biopic has brought Elvis completely into my life. Prior to that, he was on the sidelines as someone who had some good songs that I liked but now - my soul has been burst wide open! Honestly, because I have playing his music daily, watching his films and re-learning to play guitar - I feel Elvis giving me a sense of peace, contentment and motivation that I did not realise I was missing. I saw Elvis live 2 times in 1955. Then, he was more about cutting-up and rocking and rolling on the stage for the people than trying hard to demonstrate a great voice. But, as he got older, his voice got much better with deeper resonance. He was an absolutely amazing singer and on-stage performer, NOBODY CLOSE. I do not know any performer that was liked by a broad spectrum of people as Elvis was. NOBODY.

The early Elvis was more R & B oriented but he was always a great balladeer. His voice didn’t change over the years - his material did. The rock n roll used the upper register of his voice. Later on, he sang more gospel and ballads and this used the lower end of his range more. He had an enormous range for a popular music singer, more than two full octaves. He had a truly operatic voice. With his looks and his voice, he could have been a huge opera star if he had gone in that direction. Listen to It’s Now or Never.

Carolyn Wright: My wife and I retired (while living in Ohio, USA) in 2001 and purchased a winter home in Florida where we lived 9-10 months every year (until 2017). Charlie Hodge was the man who gave Elvis his scarves, water, etc., and unknown to many people, Charlie was professionally voice trained and also normally sang high harmony with Elvis. Until charlie passed away in 2006, we ALWAYS stopped by "Memories Theatre" in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. to see Charlie because Charlie appeared EVERY night they had an Elvis impersonator. Charlie was a very down to earth man and loved talking about his life with Elvis to you if you desired. One memorable statement Charlie told my wife and I was that Elvis would sometimes sing bass (1 octave above JD - JD normally sang 2 octaves below middle C) just to show JD Sumner that he (Elvis) could also sing bass if he wanted. Charlie also said that sometimes in live performances, Elvis without warning, would sing the high part of harmony, forcing him (Charlie) to sing the low part. Charlie said he knew deep down inside that Elvis purposely did that just so he (Elvis) could show Charlie that he (Elvis) could also sing the high lead if he desired. Thank you.

I, too, am from Ohio, but have been in Florida for far too many years.....another whole story. I got to see Charlie in Cincinnati in 1978 with my mother at an Elvis convention. What a treat! He was a gem and I really enjoyed the conversation. He really was interested in talking about his life with Elvis. It seemed that Charlie was a true friend and Elvis did depend on him for your list above. Charlie surely seemed dedicated to Elvis. I only found out recently that Charlie had passed away. I'm so sorry I never got to see him again. Meeting him is and always will be a cherished memory.

Simon and Garfunkel were there that night. They said " this is it we quit" Such an honor. Elvis played their song!! And they were right.

are you sure S and G were there? I wish I 'd have been there, too. I would have been about 14, if this concert was during the summer of '70.

I am Chinese born and a fan from 1958 to now...close to 60 years. During this time many great entertainers have appeared. Beatles, Stones, BGees, Roy Orbison,Michael Jackson and others. I especially loved Abba. But truly I believe none can come close to Elvis. He was just special and even the other greats must agree as many of them have done publicly. There will not be another one like him and for sure not in my life time. He is America's greatest gift to the world.

Persona Email: As I stated in my initial comment, a Professor of music attributed Elvis' extraordinary vocals to where his vocal registers were placed. We know vocal register placement is determined during 9 month pregnancy. If one believes (and I do), in divinity, then God chose to give Elvis those vocals for a divine purpose and we will never know that exact, specific divine purpose.

Close your eyes folks and go back in a time machine to that period when Elvis sang this live and you are part of the audience. That’s how good this version is.

I bet Simon and Garfunkel were playing this full blast on repeat when they heard this version, what a treat to have elvis sing your song so passionately 👑
