I attended La Sierra 1960-1964. It was a great program, very competitive. I was obsessed with the physical fitness program. I worked out at least 3 times a day. Walking to school in the morning, then during PE class, then after school. I was the first Freshman to make the Gold. The 6 minute water test was the only thing I couldn't do...I would sink to the bottom, no matter how much air I could hold. A few years later I set a record of 500 Extension Press ups. I am not sure if that record has ever been broken. I could have continued but I had already missed my next class. Great Memories. Now at 77, still in decent shape, I think those days formed the rest of my life. Thank You to all of the coaches, especially Stan LeProtti. Jim Paclik

In the 1970s, Coach LeProtti brought his program to the University of South Carolina. His fitness and handwalking course was built in front of the then-new Sol Blatt PE Center. It has since been torn down. He was the most intense, no-nonsense individual I ever met. Glad to see that his methods & ideas are being carried on over 40 years later.

Great shot of Coach Souza at 4:51. I remember Coach LeProtti and Coach Souza very well. I graduated from La Sierra in 1965 and fell a few colors short of the Navy Blue. My favorite exercises were the peg board and the man, lift, and carry. For a short period of time during my junior year, I held the record for the fastest time in the man, lift, and carry. This PE program prepared me well for basic training and AIT at Ft. Ord along with other wonderful courses the Army let me participate in. Great videos and great memories.

Just pick a few things that do not require special equipment. The methods had the magic more than the actual equipment. 💡 -RJ

I know this comment is old now, but if you haven't watched The Bioneer on KZbin, do. He runs about in the forests, using trees, branches, fences etc to do all this type of stuff.

Good Luck getting someone to volunteer to be carried for 5 Miles, A lot Of Wrestling practices have you run around the Wrestling Room or up the Stairs with a partner on your back But getting someone to volunteer to be carried for 5 miles is another story.

Is that 5 miles never putting your partner down? As the person getting carried I would get annoyed
@TheLeanBerets Жыл бұрын
No stopping. There was a specific method for each boy to learn so it was efficient for both of them. Part of the challenge was mental stability, so getting annoyed was not efficient for conservation of energy over five miles.
@JimPaclik10 ай бұрын
I always found that it was harder on the guy being carried. My best friend was Jim McKee. We would carry each other. I guess, we had the mental part worked out. Doug Lindsey was another good friend. We pushed each other to the next level.

If military would not exsist and this kind of sport training would replace the military to prevent men from losing their lifes, then it would be good. Physical exerxises can be done by all men, doesn't matter if they're in good physical health or not. Thw military service isn't for anyone and that's why this programme is better to ALL people. Otherwise, this kind of programme would be used as a tool to prepare people for a war.
