Nawaz Sharif Admits Pakistan Broke Peace Deal with India | Vantage with Palki Sharma
Pakistan's former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has admitted that Islamabad broke a 1999 peace deal with India. Sharif was referring to the Lahore Declaration signed by him and India's then-PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee to defuse tensions following the nuclear tests of 1998. Even as Sharif and Vajpayee held talks, Pakistan's army was infiltrating the hills of Kargil in Ladakh. This betrayal ended hopes of peace between India and Pakistan. Sharif's rival Imran Khan also trained his guns at former military ruler Yahya Khan who presided over Pakistan's division into Bangladesh. He suggested that Yahya was the traitor and not Bangladesh's founder Mujibur Rahman. Why are Pakistani politicians targeting the country's military? Palki Sharma tells you.
