Naz is NOT close to what Eubank did in boxing. He fought no great boxers except Barrera, and when he did he was beaten up convincingly.

u hit the nail on the head there ok naz fought plenty of boxers along the way but whne he came up against Barrera he was outboxed the better man won on the night and I for one was very glad to see that happen naz showed off quite a lot in the ring ok its what he did to get the crowd going but his time was up when he fought Barrera.

He missed his train as a result, didn't bother him he carried on speaking to me for another t minutes and was a completely engaging and gentlemanly person. I met Hamed in London - I approached him to say hello, he told me to go away and walked off. Good perspective made on the too fighters.Here is what I take of it. Eubank was never the same fighter post the Watson fight that is clear for all to see.However the Eubank Benn fights showed each fighter were great middle weights for there time. Naseem was a good fighter and a polite person in his early years (watch the parkinson interview) Money fame and a change of life do not go hand in hand it can easily be the downfull as we so often witness with many a personality.

Check out the clip of Eubank on Sky Sports recently where they show a clip of Naz at 15 years old, all starry eyed, watching Eubank flipping over the top rope. Hamed was always one of those boxers who listened too much to his own publicity. A good entertainer and a decent technician but not a good enough fighter to operate at the very top level.
@kevindurand3237 Жыл бұрын
Naz was the world's best featherweight for at least 5 years.Won all the belts. And you say he didn't operate at top level?
@dundeedolphin Жыл бұрын
@@kevindurand3237 You're right. That comment came across poorly. (It eas 8 years ago) I'm not going to try to double down on it other than to say that there are levels. Naz was a fantastically gifted boxer. And an entertaining world champion. The people he beat, he humiliated. So I didn't mran to disrespect him. But all the time he was world champion, Barrera was around and was better than him. A lot better. Levels.

Naseem Hamed was a very, very good fighter, maybe even great at one point. He did defeat numerous good fighters, from champions to top contenders. Though his confident, cocky, and arrogant demeanor was part of his edge, and once he was defeated by a fighter greater than him, he was no longer the fighter he was, he longer felt unbeatable.

Hamed beat everyone in front of him like Joe Calzaghe. The difference was Naz actually ventured to the US and it wasn't his fault that there was nobody rushing to move up to featherweight (from the legendary mexican trio) to fight Naz + Naz's physique + size was never going to let him move up to Lightweight or Light-Welter + still be effective (whilst Joe's can...cuz he's a big guy). Barrera wasnt the 1st 'real test'. He was however the biggest test, and Barrera is a legend- no doubt.
