From Swastika-adorned landscapes to Third Reich propaganda posters, many may find the objects in the latest exhibition at the MUSA museum in Vienna shocking. But curators are hoping the collection of Nazi-era artworks will shed light on the role of art under National Socialism, while also helping the Austrian capital confront its complicated war-era past.

One wonders what happens if they start confronting their present instead...

They stack it in a way that makes it forbidden in nature and will thus attach more rebellious personalities to this art. Perfect.

As someone who studied sociology and love history, I definitely approve this. Not knowing and understanding the past is far mor dangerous!

R.Steiner and Alice Bailey warned us about not comprehending the past. 'Stacking' the art so it cannot be truly perceived in context shall prove counterproductive censorship of presentation. This perpetuates the mystery

Perfectly competent, though would not want any of it in my home (even minus swastikas). The fashion plates look student level work, while those virile male nude sculptures, are they homoerotic? None of it has been cleaned either, which may be intentional. Interesting piece of Art History that I've never seen before.

So the way they've actually displayed all this artwork to me gives off the impression of exactly the kind of vibe the Nazi's were going for. A kind of homey, down to earth, relatable, volkisch one (despite the regime's equal penchant for imperial expressions of grandeur). This almost does more to humanize the regime. Maybe not a glorification, but a relatability that other works in art museums are devoid of.

What do you mean ? Is there any "Labor Camps" in Austria ? Is Hitler's legacy making a come back? We are not going to keep on feeling guilty for what our ancestors did in the past ...and this includes , the colonization, the slave trade, the religious war etc etc...

The eroticized semi-nude male forms produced by the Nazi's as public 'art' have - like Hitler's own vegetarianism- always given me pause, seeming more like a cry for help than anything else.
