HOW to CROCHET a GRANNY SQUARE for Beginners - Super Easy and Quick! Plus Tips on Changing Colors.
Granny Squares have been around forever, haven't they? Hi I'm Donna Wolfe from Naztazia. In this tutorial video, I show you how to make this very pretty and colorful granny square crochet pattern, which works up super fast and easy. These work great for a crochet blanket as well as a crochet scarf.
For this sample I'm using scraps from other crochet projects. Specifically I'm using worsted weight yarn and a size H 5 mm crochet hook. Feel free to adjust your hook or yarn size to your liking.
You can find more information on this pattern at:

Did you know I have a newsletter? I send an email out just once a week, usually on a Wednesday, announcing my latest pattern and video. You can get more info here:

So what do you think of the method of starting with a more secure slip knot and slip stitch, then crocheting over tail ends to change colors? All of those color changes and only one tail end to sew in!

Thanks! This is just a general tutorial. If you make up one square with your chosen yarn and hook, and then measure it, you can see how many of them you'll need for the size blanket you want.

I've tried following your video. The center of the first square bulks up too much and becomes almost impossible to work with. Even after several rewatches I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I use the same center hole like you do but it gets too bilky too fast. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

My question is will the ends come out when you wash the granny square
@naztazia
@naztazia 2 жыл бұрын
None of my ends over the past 40+ years of crocheting have ever come out using this method. The key though to keep the ends from unravelling the work is to start with the slip knot, then the slip stitch for every new color. That alone is very secure. Also, that extra chain-1 fastening off method keeps things secure as well.
