I wanted to watch the whole game but, I had school the next day and my parents wouldn't let me watch. My father let me watch the 1st quarter, since the game started at 10pm Eastern time. I had to sneak downstairs to watch. After awhile my parents would get pissed because I keeped turning the TV on. Finally about 0330, I watched the last 5 minutes of the game. My pop came down and started watching, since he had to be at work in NYC. He told me the Knicks would win more titles in the coming years. I was only 14 at the time and didn't know that would be the last Knick Championship. At 14 I didn't know about celebrating title winning games with alcoholic beverages. I never got to see any games at MSG because of the blackout rules. If your home had HBO it was then possible. I forgot about tip offs when another quarter started. These announcers were down to earth people who didn't interrupt the game with jerkoff promotions every 5 seconds. I miss those days.

I snuck out of my room and hid on the stairs and watched my dad curse, chain smoke, and pace circles around his Olive drab lazyboy. My dad had season tickets in those days and took me to game 6 against the Celtics. The Knicks lost and I cried all the way home down the Turnpike. When I went to my third grade class the next day my ears were still ringing. Then on Sunday they were the first team to win a game 7 at Boston Garden.

This was not a popular league at the time and Knicks Fans in New York were so indifferent that most were in bed when the Knicks won the title. People were so indifferent towards this game that this broadcast was thought to be lost media, until discovered a few years ago. Too bad. This was the last time The Knicks won anything.

Really. No Knick fan from the 70s would ever use "indifferent" to describe our fandom. Frazier. Earl the Pearl. Willis. The best teamwork of any New York team ever. What happened was, that the game was on the road and ended after midnight on the East Coast. It missed a bit of the excitement because it wasn't won at the Garden like in 1970. I was a pre-teen and asleep, but I assure you Knick fans were over the moon that they won this second title. Little did we know we would have to wait until 20__ to see another title. 😉

I was a kid in Westchester County when the Knicks won their first title...I can assure you the Knicks created an incredible buzz during this time in New York and the NBA. From the personalities of each player...the calm cool ways of coach Red Holtzman and the Knicks incredible team play...to Marv Alpert's "Yes" during radio broadcasts to "Defense" chants from the rabid fans at MSG. Throw in the magic of Dancing Harry and it was a very special time!

Knicks fans are as passionate as any fan base in sports, whether the team is good, bad or ugly. The last thing I’d ever call Knicks fans is indifferent

@@SweetbJames That game started at 10pm and didn't end until about 3:30 - 4:00 am. Most people had to work and couldn't watch. Back then blackout rules made it impossible to see games to be shown over the air. If you had HBO you could see it or traveled far enough out of the NY area.

Basketball wise, New York was blessed at that time. Not only the Knicks, but also the other team in town, the Nets, who were about to get a player by the name of Julius Erving who would lead them to two ABA championships in three years.

I used to love that theme song when the NBA game on ABC for the game of the week. I didn't even know that was BJ Thomas sing that song till later on over the years. I was a big time Lakers fan when they won in 1972 against the Knicks, unfortunately they lost the following year against them. It's was painful when they lost to the Knicks and I was 12 years old at the time so it's pain to even look at this game but the Knicks was just the better team and they were a good team in the early 70's.

there was not the glamour of this Knicks team that there was in `70 . but it can be argued the `73 team was a bit better due to a deeper bench. Lucas, Jackson, Meminger, Bibby, Gianelli. which was huge in the Semifinals against the Celtics. Especially game 4...The Easter Sunday Classic 4/22/73.

I think they were definately better offensively in 73....mentioning that....with the 70 team it was new....annnnd I can't think of a more dominant game 7 finals game than Walt Frazier played in the garden that night in 70!💪💪👍👍

Big LA fan at this time. Couldn't believe a team with Wilt and West and Baylor (in 70/71) could lose 2 out of 3 finals to the boring Knickerbockers. Huge disappointment for me as a youngster. And another playoff loss to the Bucks in that era too - but they had a young Kareem. At least we had the 71/72 record breaking team with the 33 game streak and a championship but they should have won so much more.

The Lakers were never beating the Knicks in 1973. I think the Knicks would have beaten the Lakers in 1972 if Willis Reed was healthy. Knicks actually won game 1 in 1972, then DeBusschere got hurt defending Wilt and the Knicks couldn’t deal with Wilt. Willis Reed always outplayed Wilt
