Add and polish some features. I think the devs would need more time to come out with something really next gen. It’s the same for other games like farcry and assassin’s creed games. Things that are already working sare reused.

I've been playing 2k for 20+ years and have never bought one microtransaction. Thats because I play the sim modes like MyLeague and MyGM. They are definitely there in the other modes though. HOWEVER, they are definitely not necessary to enjoy the game or anything.

This is definitely a case of the visuals being amazing and its the motion and animation that breaks the illusion. Honestly, it wouldn't both me if visuals stayed the same this generation, but physics, animation and sound saw the improvements as I personally feel that visuals are so far ahead of everything else that they need to catch up. The big issue with improving animations is interactivity. they could easily make the animations perfect but only if their was no player involved. Making the game feel responsive often requires breaking the realism of the animation. in real life you can feel your body, you know when your feet hit the ground and when you have the stability to make a move, this is a lot harder to communicate in a game, because you can't feel what the players are feeling it's very difficult to know what movements a player is capable of making at any given moment hence making the movement perfectly realistic would feel sluggish and unresponsive in practice. So they have to sacrifice realism in order to make the game feel better to play. And to be honest in the heat of the moment your unlikely to notice the dodgy animations but you'll definitely notice the unresponsiveness. To give an example for non sports fans think about Red dead redemption 2, the realistic animations look beautiful but are incredibly slow and sluggish, the game would definitely be served by reducing the realism somewhat. Imagine how much harder it would be to play sports games if it required to same level of control over the players that say Death Stranding does (as in you had to manually dribble the ball or shift weight from one foot to the other just like real life), it'd be far more realistic but incredibly difficult and unenjoyable in such fast paced games.

Agreed, I sometimes had to do a double take on the overview scenes. And I’m someone that easily picks up on anything CGI generated (in movies) so I’m genuinely impressed at where we’re at already. There’s still a long way to go in close(er) up scenes (eyes and shiny/plastic look) and especially the animations still need work of course. It’s possible a non-cross gen game could get close but I think it’ll take another console generation. Still impressive!

Looks so much better in person. First game i got for PS5 and man is it damn near life like. The sweat when it kicks in really shows the realism of the tech.. personally I thought PS4 Pro/X1X versions looked damn good too for outdated hardware but yeah when they stick to strictly Next Gen systems I imagine they're gonna really use the systems hardware to it's full potential. Still dont like how the animations can be a lil stiff at times like nba live and the dead eye effect can be noticable after a few mins of playing. Overall from a visual standpoint this is one of the best lookin launch games for PS5 and XSX/S

I knew the differences between the consoles would be minimal given my years of experience with building gaming PCs and having a degree in computer science with some game development experience. The PS5 actually has a slightly more performant CPU than the SX due to the unified cache which reduces latency. Less latency = more frames. A 100mhz difference is negligible compared to having unified cache. This could explain why the PS5 generally performs better on "high framerate modes". The higher clocked CUs on the GPU side of things also scale better for performance than having more CUs clocked at slower speeds. Mark Cerny did a presentation showing two GPUs with the same teraflop rating, but the one with fewer CUs clocked at a higher frequency performed 33% faster than the other GPU despite having the same teraflop raiting. It's just much harder to use more CUs efficiently. The GPU cache scrubbers on the PS5 also allow it to require less memory bandwidth without compromising performance. I don't believe we can directly compare the 10.3 teraflops of the PS5's GPU to 12.1 teraflops of the SX's GPU and say definitively that games will always run better on the SX. The GPUs have enough differences that it's not an apples to apples comparison and going purely based on paper specs is foolhardy. I think both consoles will be trading blows the entire generation and I don't see the SX pulling ahead in any meaningful margin where the PS5 version of a game is obviously inferior.

@@03chrisv if 120 fps mode was clearly better on ps5, then why did sx outperform it on cod and borderlands. To me the difference is how much time the devs put into game optimization for each console. From what I've heard, the ps5 is currently a lot easier to optimize than the sx, hence the slightly better performance in parts where the sx should be better. Also xbox has had the stronger console since the one x, so as good as cerny is at building consoles, its clear ps5 is focused more in speed than graphical power and performance ( although not much different)

Mark Cerny already told us in March that PS5's GPU has a custom and proprietary feature called cache-scrubbers which prevents it from having significant FPS drops when new data is coming from the memory modules (GDDR6 modules). Also running the GPU at 2.23 GHz is helping it. Also, the fact that PS5's CPU doesn't have to do any I/O work and therefore no bottlenecks occur in CPU. SX and SS probably have some hardware-level issues. But we should wait and see if this trend continues until late 2021.

As we saw in one scene, when Xbox CPU has to do a lot of processing to handle the simulation of hundreds of people around the court it droped frames. But again, I'll wait a few more months to see what happens.

I've read it's because Microsoft needs to update their API and that could result in a 20% boost in performance. Maybe even more. We just have to wait and see. Sony on the other hand did send out their SDK - software developing kit much earlier so they already have a pretty well optimized API. My guess, it would be like PS5 is using the latest DX12 while XSX is still running on DX11.

They have some work to do in animation. You could reduce everything to silhouettes and you'd still be able to tell which one isn't real because of how feet slide and the acceleration of body parts. Also eye saccade doesn't seem to exist at all which contributes to dead eye.

Mark Cerny already told us in March that PS5's GPU has a custom and proprietary feature called cache-scrubbers which prevents it from having significant FPS drops when new data is coming from the memory modules (GDDR6 modules). Also running the GPU at 2.23 GHz is helping it. Also, the fact that PS5's CPU doesn't have to do any I/O work and therefore no bottlenecks occur in CPU. SX and SS probably have some hardware-level issues. But we should wait and see if this trend continues until late 2021.

The Series S seems like it was pretty much designed for people who don't have 4K TVs so I don't know why devs are targeting higher resolutions in favor of reduced visual quality. Its another PS3/X360 scenario again: the Series X is more powerful but its harder to develop for, like what happened in 7th gen. The PS3 was stronger, but its chip made it stupidly hard to develop for, making every game run worse until the end of the generation. My guess is that we will see the Xbox SX outperforming the PS5 until mid-gen or the end of the generation (that, if Sony and MS dont come up with another mid-gen/Pro consoles)

That drop in frame rate happens a lot more on series x then just occasionally. It happens on a lot of the camera settings I use like broadcast/zoom. Also the drop in frame rate on cut scenes kills the game flow. I'm very sensitive to motion stutter/lag that this game had me going back to last gen xbox one and the PC version if 2K21. Also 2k14 and 2k16 is 100% better in the animation, game play and movement department.

@@Foggy_2806 the pervasive explanation seems to be that Series X and S's dev kits were less mature and devs received them later than PS5, owing to the RDNA2 features xbox waited on (and are yet to be implemented in games yet). So its really a behind the scenes, and probably, temporary problem. Since the X is more powerful than PS5 in every way besides SSD. So I think next year and beyond games will start to show their advantages on Series X. Itll jus take time for devs to catch up with the Xbox development environment, which apparently PS5 didn't really do.

@@xsawra6333 game pass, backwards compatibility for those who already invested in huge libraries on Xbox, the few exclusives it currently has as well as the increasing number of exclusives it will have going forward. There are reasons but you’re just a Sony fanboy yourself 🤣. I have a PS5 on the way so I’m not really bothered by what you say. I’ll be enjoying all that console gaming has to offer.

@@beatuplexus Game Pass is on PC or Smartphone with xCloud, the PS5 has PS4 compatibility too Digital foundry test it and it was better, I'm not a "fan boy" i play on PC so I can see both sides of the coin, i can see why people buy a PS5 for the exclu, the Speed/Power of the console, the new controller techs.. but I don't understand why people buy an xbox especially now that everything is available on PC, Smartphone

@@xsawra6333 but a decent PC costs more money that not everyone has, phones are hardly the best place to play console games/iPhones don’t even support that yet officially. Xcloud is cooler to me when you think about how it can now be used on PCs that would be too underpowered to play the latest games on the market. I can see your line of thinking for sure, but people have been playing Xbox for generations and have accumulated huge libraries, that don’t entirely transfer over to PC. Only a portion transfer over. An Xbox currently is currently a great option to still enjoy the massive library that you’ve built up over the years physically and/or digitally. Even the game pass library isn’t exactly the same for PC and Xbox. There are titles that are exclusive to either of the two versions of game pass.

@@sozisalad5011 Series X was marketed as the most powerful console and yet in every games tested the performance is always below PS5. Obviously, this particular game is certainly running well regardless... its just to not what Mircrosoft was selling to us. We should see the Series X running those games perfectly and BETTER than on the PS5. Its NOT about console wars, its about getting what was promised to us by Microsoft.

@@Millicente Dude I don't know what they can do really... but I feel cheated big time. Why games need to be optimized so bad to run good on Series X? Thats the problem here. I mean if I get a fucking 3090 GPU, it better perform better than the 2060 super... no optimization needed by the devs, its just raw power. I thought raw power would be able to have the exact same effect for games on Series X similar to what happened with the One X. Therefore, maybe the conclusion is really that the Series X is NOT more powerful than the PS5 meaning that Microsoft lied.
