Great video again as always, Dom. Really liking this series in particular though, and I can't wait for the next installment. Honestly, 2K8 ranks high for me personally, mostly because it was my first 2K title, too. The nostalgia I feel listening to its soundtrack or watching gameplay from it is strong, and brings me back to better days, so while it isn't a perfect game by any means, it sure as hell was a fun one for me. (*Also, I'm nitpicking, but when you say "resemblance," I'm pretty sure the word you're looking for is just "semblance." Lmao.)

I completely agree with your review on 2k8. I remember playing 2k6 and 2k7 and just thinking to myself, man 2k8 is going to be the best! Then when it came out it was a huge step backwards...it's still one of my least favorite 2k's and funny how 10 years later I feel the same way with 2k18 lol. One redeeming quality is that I had a ton of fun playing with Gilbert Arenas and the Wizards in my Association mode and against friends.
@knicks20306 жыл бұрын
2K8 was my first introduction to gambling on games. I was a freshman in college and actually had to learn how to run plays and use my bench. I made over $400 playing 2K that year and had some wild games including being down 10 and scoring 11 points in row in under a minute with Marbury to win at the buzzer with a 3. As a Knicks fan I had a starting lineup and a bench lineup and I remember how hard it was to use my bench in the beginning. I ended up loving doing that though and continued for years. In 2K8 for the Knicks my starting lineup was PG- Marbury (Amazing in the game) SG- Quentin Richardson (Could shoot, but was garbage for everything else and super inconsistent. He frustrated me the most) SF- Wilson Chandler (Very raw, but athletic and could play defense, terrible shot though) PF- Jared Jefferies (The man could play D in the game!) C- Zach Randolph (Amazing offense and had a 3 for some reason, horrible on defense and undersized so that is why Jefferies started) Bench- PG- Jamal Crawford (I called this back than that Crawford was a better bench player than a starter,. He was lightening off the bench. I had a 82 point game with him) SG- Fred Jones (Could dunk and shoot. Inconsistent, but solid) SF- Ronaldo Balkman (Horrible offense, but could dunk, great defense) PF- David Lee (Solid overall except for defense, he would come into his own in 2K9 since he was the only good player on that team) C- Eddy Curry (Amazing offense, terrible defense. How we thought him and Randolph could play together is beyond me. One of them needed to take a back seat as even I could see in the game they were not a good pairing)

I can't speak for console gamers but for us PC gamers, 2k should just launch a single game called NBA 2K and make it cost $5 a month for as long as you want to play it. That is the same as spending $60 a year and costs less than the average player spends on VC anyway. That way, they would never remove features since a new game wouldn't come out every year. If they listen to the community they could just improve the game with quarterly updates. This is the system iRacing uses and it is amazing.
@H41030v3rki110ny0u6 жыл бұрын
But then you never own the game. Games as a service are a terrible idea. With that type of system you likely cannot play without an internet connection. If it did not require it, then you could cheat to keep the game for $5 forever otherwise via manipulating your computer/the program... so it would require an internet connection. Say they update it horrifically, adding in more egregious microtransactions, broken gameplay, gamebreaking bugs... you then quit your subscription. Now you can never play previous versions because you do not own the game, nor have a physical copy, because you had a game as a service.. you cannot even play the current version. You spent $180 over the course of three years, and now you have no game to show for it. I am a PC gamer, as well, so when you say, " but for us PC gamers" I don't think you realize how diametrically opposed to your idea that many PC gamers, if not the extreme majority, are. Games as a service are the beginning of the slippery slop to further destroy gaming. It may *sound* like a great idea, but in practice, it's not. I'm not sure iRacing is a great game to bring up, because of how their system compares. They function like an MMO with their subscriptions, so if NBA took their pricing model, it would be roughly $10 per month, $8 per month if you bought 3 months at once, and $5 per month only if you buy a full year at once. They also charge you $12 for each new car, and $12-$15 for new tracks. Absolutely ridiculous.
@acdcdave13876 жыл бұрын
Th3 Kool Aid Man I understand your complaints but the same complaints brought up about iRacing all the time are because people compare them to traditional video games. iRacing is a hobby, even with a grand's worth of money spent on it over the last 3 years or so it may be insanely expensive when compared to a traditional game but insanely cheap compared to my dad's golfing expenses. It is a hobby, I'm willing to spend money on a hobby if the end product is of high quality. Competitors will always exist to provide a different product for cheaper if that is what someone wants. I just want a quality basketball simulation and I'm willing to spend good money on it since it is one of my favorite hobbies. As for 2K games, I quit playing them with 2k16 because they do the same thing every year...release a cruddy game and then after a few months, completely stop updating or patching it and after a few years the game is worthless.
@Godblessamerica20126 жыл бұрын
David Martin iracing is trash when it comes to the fact that for something that brags about realism, it has it's flaws such as a faulty tire model, online racers being trash, glitches, and price tag being too expensive. Considering nr2003 was the source code, it's a shame that the legendary sim has become tbh
@Godblessamerica20126 жыл бұрын
David Martin tho I get what you're saying. I think I saw a guy that actually tried buying a real race car, liscence and entry fee to each race at his short track and compared it to iracing and he wound up being really good.
@acdcdave13876 жыл бұрын
Dennis Bowen regardless of what any of us think in this here thread, they'll never change 2k for the better. There is simply too much money in this wretched virtual currency nonsense. Our best hope is that a competitor comes along and provides actual competition. Competition is what drives growth and development. Only when a majority of their gamers leave to play a superior game will they wake up and smell the coffee

Nba 2k8 was my official introduction to 2k, I liked it, but the lead pass going through everyone online, the unstoppable dunk under the basket over everybody, over dribbling with a ball handler to get a guaranteed canned animation layup or dunk, ruined my experience quite a bit, as I had like 5 charges against the guy trying to cheese with LeBron so he had to sit him down, he surly was disappointed over the mic lol.
