saw the genesis/snes/sega cd versions up, but oddly not this one.

I love every version of this track, but I also have a definite hierarchy of preference. From least to greatest [IMO] is Sega CD, SNES, Arcade, and the top dog, the Genesis. The Genesis has all the extra embellishments, the Arcade has almost a circusy fun to it, where the Sega CD - and especially the SNES version....sound like they're coming from down the hall. But as I said, I love them all, so I guess they're all winners ultimately.

I like Genny's range. She enjoys a longer track. The other versions have nice soundfronts but feel more cut & repeat.

@@NerdNoiseRadio I beg to differ Genesis is the worst one, sounds like it's running at 2 channels of audio at best. Sounds empty and bare.
@NerdNoiseRadio5 жыл бұрын
@@Acanofalconpunch well, then I'm afraid we're gonna just have to agree to disagree, my friend. To my ears, any [quote unquote] "fullness" that the SNES version may have over the Genesis version is akin to the accumulation of reverberations of a tinny sound played loudly enough to echo down a long hallway. By contrast, the Genesis is crispy and punchy like it's right there next to you, and then, of course, is the only one that vamps. The SPC700 reverb on the SNES also has a weird tendency to produce an unpleasant sort of metallic "sizzliness", which is also on display here. That's the double whammy in my book. Your mileage may vary, of course, and if it does, then you'll just have to do you, boo boo, and I'll just have to do me.....um....boo boo. :-) I will say this though: I don't dislike any of the versions of this track. It's a fun track and results in something relatively pleasant anywhere and everywhere it goes. In fact, back in Nov 2017 (I can't remember if I said this in my original comment) I pit the SNES, Sega CD, Arcade, and Genesis versions against each other as the closing set of tracks in episode 18 of my show (my first ever "Face Off" episode). But the vector between how much I like the Genesis version, relative to how much I like the SNES is so extreme that it almost makes my feelings for the SNES version feel like dislike by comparison. My feelings about the Arcade version (2nd), and Sega CD version (3rd), of course, land somewhere in-between. But again, if we don't see eye to eye on this, we don't see eye to eye. You know, that's okay. Neither of us is an idiot, and the fabric of the internet doesn't unravel over it. It's just there's no changing my mind on this one, my man. I'm solidly team blue here. All the way. :-) Cheers!

@@Acanofalconpunch I agree. Like most crappy sounding Genesis games, it used the horrid GEMS driver for the sound. If I could share my preference of sound comparing this tune: 1st SNES 2nd Arcade 3rd SEGA CD 4th Genesis This is also coming from someone who loves the Mega Drive/Genesis sound too. I could even make a better sounding version on Deflemask when I have the time to master the program. [EDIT] Instructions unclear. Actually made NES version in Deflemask instead. Still better than the Mega Drive/Genesis version though

Not really. SNES ADPCM cannot reach the level of clarity of the YM2151 which this game uses or YM2612 which the Genesis uses. It also lacks the smoothness and flow of note changes, instead sounding very choppy.
@emanatingf5 жыл бұрын
@therangersrule68 Exactly and while the SNES does shine in some games. The Genesis sound chip is more soulful, clean & versatile. A fari amount of SNES's music can have too much Reverb.

@spinct83 It's probably because this version uses FM synthesis similar to the Genesis while the SNES used sample-based music. Sample-based music is more versatile due to the fact that you can use nearly any sound you want in your music.

Yeah. They chose some god-tier instruments for the SNES version too, unlike most SNES games.
