Here is one for you. Celtics were playing Utah. Larry walks over to the Jazz bench and says to the coach and players. "Yeah, I feel like 43 tonight". Not only did he get 43, but he got it in 3 quarters, and get this after 3 quarters he almost had a quadruple double. He had 43 points, 10 rebounds, 12 assists, and 9 steals. Oh, he didn't play the 4th, because they were up by 30. When asked why he didn't go back in for a 10th steal. He said, " I already did my damage". Lol

Being an armchair quarterback 40 years later, I’ve grown to be a huge Larry Bird fan. Back when it was happening, I was a 1000% Lakers fan and a Magic fan. If I got to relive it all again today, I would still be a Magic over Bird fan. Magic was the Leader on the court for the Lakers. He had a presence and charisma that commanded your attention. When we played Boston and Larry Bird, it made us cringe. They played differently. Bird was like that junk yard dog, alley cat, guy in the shadows that was everywhere disrupting anyone near him. Lakers fans respected and feared what he might do. We hoped he had a bad game. We hoped Magic was on fire. It was pins and needles because it went back and forth. The Celtics would blow out the Lakers, and the Lakers would blow them out right back. We knew the Lakers were better, but nobody told Boston that.

Rodney Rogers was a beast. He was 6'8" strong and very fast. When Bird humiliated Rodney, he was nearly retired, so, his back was literally broken and had both achelies redone. All this Bird wasn't athletic crap is just that. Bird scored pretty much at will against the best athletes and defenders of the NBA.

Bird was, in fact, not slow, and had much quicker feet than Luka. He went end to end quite often. To think he did what he did against the physical Defenses that he did and then to contemplate him moving freely behind moving picks, near zero interior Defense and no holding and pushing allowed. He would score at will and get 15-20 boards a game(instead of the 10 he averaged when HoF (actual)big men roamed the floor......

When Larry broke his check bone slamming his face on the court and went into the locker room only to return it reminded me of one other time in NBA history, the time Willis Reed had the bad leg and game 7 in 1970. Bird would struggle in a 1v1 against all the other greats and probably most of the NBA in general. His strength was in his ability to utilize any option. Not only could he exploit the smallest crack, but knowing he could and would shoot, pass, or dribble at a moment's notice makes it harder to defend him. A 1v1 situation limits options and makes physical capability far more important than it is in the team match.

With that said, You don't know Larry. He was the master of overcoming any obstacle. He would "simply" outsmart them just like he did with all the other hall of famers in which they all attest to. Repeatedly.

Indeed he was the master.. but he was also the first one to realized in order for Boston to stay competitive is to recruit young bloods when Kevin Mchale was injured, because the course of the game is changing drastically.. To be an athletic team.. Because the era of the backcourt was ending.. And the frontcourt was rising spearheaded by Pistons.. Faster and more threat from the outside..

I don't agree. Larry was great primarily because he was himself a great player. After that he was a great team captain. If his main strength was in helping a team win then he'd have retired earlier than he did and maybe become a good coach, and we might not have heard much about him. He'll have a tough time stopping someone on the level of Jordan or Kobe on a fast break but otherwise he can defend and he had quick hands. But regardless they also have to try to stop him and that's where all players had a tough time.

Larry Bird is the undisputed best traffic shooter in NBA history because he does not require the space that other great players require. You can place two or three defenders in front of Larry, and he'll still get his shot off, and there's nothing you can do about it but hope and pray he misses.

For those that think Larry Bird was not as good as he really was. This comment is for those whom never had the chance to see him play. At that time it was not about the individuals stats it was about the win. But if you need some stats here you go: Here are some of Larry Bird's notable career achievements and statistics: Three-time NBA champion (1981, 1984, 1986); Two-time NBA Finals MVP (1984, 1986); Three-time NBA MVP (1984-86); 12-time NBA All-Star (1980-88, 1990-92); Nine-time All-NBA First Team (1980-88); All-NBA Second Team (1990); Three-time All-NBA Defensive Second Team (1982-84); NBA Rookie of the Year (1980); NBA All-Rookie Team (1980); Three-time NBA Three-Point Contest champion (1986-88); Career-high in points: 60 (March 12, 1985) -- tied for franchise record with Jayson Tatum; Named NBA Coach of the Year (1998); and Named NBA Executive of the Year (2012). Larry Bird, was the first player to accomplish the 50-40-90 achievement, and one of two players to achieve the feat in multiple seasons. Career averages: 24.3 points per game 10.0 rebounds per game 6.3 assists per game 88.6% free throw percentage 49.6% field goal percentage 37.6% 3-point percentage Now we can't forget that Bird famously played with two injured ankles and a notoriously cranky back that forced him to lay down on the floor during practice breaks. He likely used crutches after season-ending foot surgery just six games into the 1988-89 seasonCareer averages:

I will just say that rookie Bird improved the same exact Celtics 29-53 team to a 61-21 team. Jordan improved the 27-55 team to 38-44 team in his rookie year. Sidenotw David Robinson improved the Spurs from a 21-61 team to 56-26 team his rookie year. Bird knew that he had to get his teammates to contribute greatly to win. MJ had to learn that he can't just score and score and score to win, but he had to get help to win, he had to get his teammates to play hard

One thing I loved about Magic and Larry, besides them making the NBA what it is today, is that they made their team mates better. I know we sports fans hear that all the time, but truthfully, Larry or Magic can take the 12th man on the bench and that dude will look like he should start because of how those two would have gotten him involved to make an impact. That is why I can easily say Larry is a top 10 player of all time and if you make Lebron included in with the PFs instead of SFs, Bird is best SF ever. Oh and for the love of god please stop comparing ever white basketball player to Larry Bird, no one is Larry Bird, not Luca, NOT Dirk, not Jokic, no one. Bird was skilled and athletic, could shoot, could jump high enough to dunk and fast enough to run the break, his passing finesse was top 5, his basketball IQ is probably top 3, so add that all together and you really have one of the hardest players to stop. I give credit where credit is due and not before, so all this talk about Lebron and MJ and now Bird and LeBron back when LB was in his 2nd and 3rd year, come on. In a one on one game, a lot players might have beaten Bird, but his savvy put him in a different tier, same with Kobe, Wilt, Lebron, and MJ, and those players made their teams better.

The guys on the bench weren't laughing at their teammates on the court, and they weren't celebrating Bird. They were laughing at the ridiculousness of the shots he was making (and calling before he made them)-- they were incredulous at the streak he was on. It wasn't "you guys {their teammates} are gettin' cooked, ha ha ha," it was "Do you believe this s***?!?!?" and "How is this even possible-- this is just too crazy to be real, man!" It was just a phenomenon, the game he was having, that nobody could believe. Even some of the guys on the court have said things to that effect in interviews, and said that though usually during a game they're too involved to have any kind of perspective on what's happening, being too in the moment and too focused on what they need to be doing...but during that game, they said, it was so crazy that they were kind of outside it, watching and marveling.

Whoever told you that MJ didn't become MJ until after Bird retired knows nothing about basketball...MJ became who he was because of the Pistons and trying to get past them...Bird retired in '92, Jordan had 2 rings by then, Bird didn't win another one after '86. Bird is an all time great but Jordan had already become the player he was way before Bird retired.

Bird and Magic could dominate a game while taking 10 shots, because they could rebound and pass. I’m not sure if you know this but in Phoenix he was one steal away from a quadruple double after 3 quarters and wouldn’t go back on the game because it was a blowout and he said no to the coach he’d already did enough damage to them. This man was cold! Bird had a 28” verticals the same as Karl Malone Bird was listed at 6’9” but most players say he’s closer to 6’10” you don’t have to jump high to get it done. Bird was a lot quicker than Luka in the early part of his career. No you’re wrong if you saw Birds 60 point game that was actually respect for Bird. When the other team realizes they are watching something remarkable that wasn’t disrespectful

I'm a Larry Bird fan, no doubt about it.. What he did during his time.. was very special.. He just made it realized in a game of basketball that there is more aside from being athletic to be a factor in a team sport.. even to the brink of being physical and mental toughness.. And that I think what he brought in during that era... To be honest.. that is what other teams learn from him.. not only Lakers.. but specially the Pistons.. And now that is what happen/trend coming in the 90s.. The first three feat of the Bulls.. was the Bulls who lived by that book... It wasn't MJ who carried them in the championship... there were a lot of heros' like John Paxon and Bill Cartwright.. The next three peat was different... Just to be realistic.. if Bird is going to play in this era.. I would just like to compare him to Robert Horry.. a role player if not, Pete Maravich.. Men.. Horry got 5 rings if I'm not mistaken.. Best comparison now.. Bird and Klay Thompson. Do you think this is absurd..? No one would even think that Luca Doncic would even be the next Lebrond James.. What is more realistic.. If Luca can be more like Stephen Curry.. Even Giannis would agree..

The problem with these "reaction" vids is the host talking too much! I have to go back and replay the tape to hear what`s being said on the tape. So back off 50% on the talking over the video you're presenting.

What's the point in reacting to a video where they're telling you stories and you talk through half the information. It ruins it for me when you miss something important. There's a way to pause when you're talking for a reason.
