Saw the Dr. J dunk and the Starks dunk on TV live and the other two later. At the time...that Starks dunk floored me because it was so unexpected. He got to the rim using his left hand just a split second before he would have gotten destroyed in the air. Fair to say it was one of the most ballsy and athletic plays I've ever seen from a smaller guy on the basketball court.

I agree with Dawkins, the NBA today is all buddy buddy with one another. It has killed all the great rivalries that the 80's and 90's had. Watch some of the Larry Bird and Magic interviews. They would work together a bit during the off seasons, but especially during the seasons, it was flat out war and the other was the enemy. There was no all the superstars being friends on and off the court and definitely during the season. They were passionately competitive with the other teams and players. Todays players simply play the game like a job. I miss the 90's NBA I am just glad I got to at least grow up and see one of the best eras in the NBA. Until the players bring back that competitive hatred (not a disrespectful hate, but a hate from a competitive standpoint the players on the other teams were the enemy and the game was the war), we will never see those truly great rivalries again. Bird and Magic even said it.
@ericsnipe72362 жыл бұрын
The old heads contradict themselves. They also was cool with one another off the court but on the court it was straight business. I admit today my be a little more friendlier but the old head are exaggerating because they also was cool with each other off the court!

The "Final Four" dunks were most appropriate in that two of the four were Bulls versus Knicks in playoff critical games. But the John Starks slam down over three defenders, one of which was the great Michael Jordan himself has got to be number one. Starks and his Knicks were always the best man and never the groom during the 1990s playoffs, and Chicago ruled the roost. But for one rim rattling, crowd shocking, eye popping play, Starks gave as good as he got. NYC may have lost the playoff war, but for one spectacular moment of athletic brilliance, they won a memorable battle as epitomized by that slam.
@thedroptop60742 жыл бұрын
I may be a bit bias, but being from NYC and watching that game live, it was all that people talked about for days!!! I dont know how they did it, but that poster was everywhere the NEXT DAY!!!
@kevinwillis95712 жыл бұрын
I was in HS and I went crazy when Starks dunked out of nowhere. I can't remember him dunking prior to that. What makes that dunk the best is the moment. The Playoffs, Jordan and the Bulls, under a minute left in 4th Quarter, Knicks up by 3. Bulls vs Knicks was always the highlight of playoffs. The NBA Championship games were anticlimactic after that.

Pippen over Ewing is the nastiest dunk ever to me I remember seeing Scotties face light up before the attack!

Absolutely! Tom Chambers greatest dunk. Not to say the others weren't awesome. I've always been a Lakers fan, but I loved watching the Suns in the early 90s. Thanks for the memories Tom.

Pedro There's a dunk by Chambers that should have been added to the list for all time he dunked on THE ENTIRE FRONT COURT OF BOSTON in the Boston Garden early '90s go check it out.

I think that Dr. J was the best dunker of all time but MJ was the best all around player that is known for dunks

I guess I'm kind of biased towards, Doc. That dunk he had over Grossman was awesome. He was a couple of feet outside the key and he just glided like he had wings.

best dunk ever/funniest ever was Shaq vs Dudley. hands down

My favorite all-time big man vs small man is Detroit's Pistons star 6'1" Isaiah Thomas out jumping 7'1" Chicago center Will Perdue in the early 90's to win the tap and possession as well. When you look at the replay you actually see Isaiah's head or eyes level with the rim which means the bottom of his feet are (4.5 feet or 54 inches) off of the ground, straight jumping out of the gym so to say!

yeah Pippen over Ewing was so incredible because it was so unexpected. Not around Ewing, he went OVER him.
@ktj121210 жыл бұрын
in my opinion, that's not even Pip's best posterization dunk. remember MJ's comeback in '95, the 55-point game at MSG? Pip had a fast break dunk over Charles Smith in the 2nd quarter that is absolutely disgusting.

I forgot about the Reggie Miller dunk, but the Starks dunk on H Grant and Jordan (looks like he laid off a bit because of space and he thought Grant had him) AND the Kevin Johnson dunk on the Dream (I never knew K Johnson could dunk, being only 6 foot just like me) were 2 of the most unexpected dunks I had ever seen. Nothing against any of the other dunks, which all had so many positives, but the ones where you've seen a guy do 100 layups in those exact situations, then just DUNK it, just is so awesome! And I don't think you can call anyone a better dunker than Vince Carter. The guy was just a human trampoline. There's people that have mastered jumping on a trampoline and don't jump even half as high as Vince. The dunks he did were just unreal and defy gravity. While I do think many other dunks by other players were unreal, Vince did it time and time again. There were literally times where I thought he spends more time in the air than on the ground. Not taking anything away from his work ethic or any part of his game, but his genetics are a 1 in a million (and most of those people will never see the NBA).

Wilkins (6'8), Kemp (6'10), Dawkins (6'11) are really powerful posterizers, i'll give you that but am not really a fan of dunkers taller than 6'6. Sure they got a lot of power but they can't fly like VC and MJ. Although Vince has the complete dunking package power, creativity, hangtime, finesse and etc. you name it, that is why he's a better DUNKER than Jordan. Jordan's 48" was just recorded but not really proven in his dunks, if you believed that then you must have also believed that Vince reached the top of the backboard. They leap at the same height and yes, Vince can also jump the same height with one leg, it's really just often that he dunks with one leg. There's a lot of proof that Vince is the greatest of all time NBA dunker, go watch all Vince's dunks, some are even rare to find but incredible. Yes, even better than Green (6'8) Gordon (6'10) Griffin (6'10) and Zach Lavine (6'5). Although Zach got potential but lacks power, body control finesse in the air but is a better leaper than VC and MJ. Zach is like the opposite of Vince. Vince jumps mostly two foot and Zach mostly jumps one foot. Still Vince will destroy Zach when it comes to dunking. Prime Vince Carter is the Greatest of all time NBA Dunker.

Agree about Vince Carter's dunks. They were uniquely vicious high-wire acts.

I see why Ewing was so upset at Scottie after getting dunked on. Scottie took a swing or gave a Ewing a hard push with his hand as he was going down. One thing to get dunked on then dude walks all over you, another thing if you get pushed IN ADDITION to those. If you look at Scottie's face at that moment, I believe he had malicious intent. But that's just me.
