I thought I was bugging so I went back and watched many of the all star games in the 90s. It did resemble a real game back then...Abviously not as intense as the reg season, but the players cared and wanted to win. Blending them into the actual all-star game diminishes the Sunday night event because the whole purpose is to showcase the best that the league had to offer, not shine a light on what’s to come. This new tournament style is dumb, the target score was dumb as well. The Team Captain thing was kind of interesting because some players have beef, for example when Giannis was captain, he avoided choosing James Harden. It's crazy, because if players don't get voted in or chosen by the coaches to make the Allstar teams, they would be crying about it. Yet they haven't given us a quality Allstar game in years. The ASG should be voluntary. If a player isn't going to put in effort & doesn't wanna go, have the next man up go play. The ASG died when Kobe retired. He knew how to get that Mamba Mentality out of people & made them compete, him & Dirk were the last of the 90's breed. Nowadays, Giannis is like the only guy I can think of, who actually puts in some sort of effort into the ASG.

Kobe made it a point to guard LeBron that 4th quarter, & that clutch defense sealed the win for the West. The Allstar Saturday night is the real joke, that's why it's constantly changing every year. The Dunk contest has been a joke since after VC won it, with the exception of a good one maybe every few years, like the Lavine/Gordon ones. Bottom line is, you have several options. 1. Leave it as is because at the end of the day "it is an exhibition" you can put it upside down and it is "AN EXHIBITION" nobody is going all out when it doesnt matter. 2. Remove the all star game and just give out awards for a bunch of skill challenges. 3. MAKE IT COUNT. How? baseball did it for some time in the 90's. Make it so that it provides home field advantage to the winner and if we can take it further, give the winner a 1-0 advantage in the finals. The whole Europe vs. U.S. will not guarantee viewership because they still dont have to play hard. Or a team Africa vs. team U.S.A vs team Europe. That might be interesting but still, they are exhibitions. If it counts, they might come out to play. Regardless of, the NBA is unwatchable. It is all about the 3 pt shot and EVERYBODY has trained to be able to hit it consistently.

@@brian6816 i dont disagree but some context to add though was that pop was resting tim, tony, manu, at the back half of their careers after they have already established themselves as multiple time champions. that at least is understandable, though they should have played and instead just restrict the minutes. now the teams are resting players in their prime years, avoiding the big time matchups during the regular season, etc. load management wouldnt have been that much of a problem if the players/teams didnt abuse it.

Change the regular season format, do multiple in season tournaments (divisional, conference, all nba) winning a tournament will have cash prizes and “seeding points” that equate to multiple wins in the regular season. You could make up ground in the standings by winning a tournament, it could create for some exciting moments in the nba. One and done tournament style is the most exciting format in sports.

If they are so unnappreciative that asking them to play one extra game and take it seriously is too much to ask, i would just cancel the game entirely and replace it with a long weekend of mandatory autograph signings and photo opps with fans. (I bet the players would be protesting to go back to the All Star game format after that.)

Get rid of that NBA Cup BS because it's like a consolation prize like winning a state tournament in high school. And I want the All-Star Game to go back to its traditional style like last year. East vs. West. Not team captains choosing their squad.

Lesser playoff spots will help with regular season games being more competitive and meaningful. Go with the top 12 teams in the league and place in a bracket format with the top ten always playing the lesser record opponents.

They should make it to where it’s East vs West, winning conference gets home court advantage in the finals , or they can make it where if your conference wins every player’s team gets an automatic extra W and the losing conference gets their respective team a respective L
