Two interesting names in the end credits: Ed Begley Jr. was one of the show's writers & Jonathan Haze from the original "Little Shop of Horrors" (who recently died) was Supervising Producer.

There's SO much Mort Sahl stuff NOT online.. He had TV shows in the 60s, 70s, had a radio show in LA (KLAC) and DC (WRC-AM).. So many hours of show but nowhere in sight.

The men song resembles the Lumberjack song from Monty Python. Loved this offering! Commercials and all.

Martin Mull was always my fave ! First saw him on Fernwood 2NITE. Also, he plays some great licks with Glen around 44:00.

RIP Pat Paulson, Glen Campbell, Tom Smothers, and Martin Mull.. After their hit CBS series was abruptly cancelled in 1969 the brothers never achieved that level of success again.

It's not like they didn't try. They did these specials on NBC in the late 70's early 80's then got CBS to pick up the New Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour for a couple of seasons in the early 90's. From what I recall that show did reasonably well.

@Foxonian The "New" series aired in 1988 and 1989. It did moderately well with little or no promotion. However, it was a mixed bag which led them nowhere. After that, they never had another series, except to do wraparounds for the airings of the 1967-69 Comedy Hour on E! in 1992/3.

Echo during Glen Campbell's performance aside, this was a fun broadcast🎉❤ 24:38 goes to show how mostly everyone could laugh at some things that others would take offense to. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼on another note, that Rue Morgan made my ears bleed with that screeching😭😭😭just terrible

14:25 The year is 1980. Soon it will be 1981. My wife, she brings home the bacon and she fries it up in a pan. But now? Now? She wants to remind me that I'm a man. My dear, sweet love. Don't patronize me. You can't have it both ways. By all means, keep showing me that you don't need me for anything because you bring home your own bacon AND you fry it up in a pan. But don't you then sidle up to me like I'm some great provider when there's nothing left for me to do. I'm not a provider of anything anymore! Why do you even LIKE me??? I sob into my pillow. The tables have truly turned in my household. Me, needy and hysterical. My wife, capable and stable.

And nothing ever happened with Roo! Not even a single release. But then she can't sing, except flat notes, so there you go. I will never know how she booked this show with with no record on the charts or even a record at all! Without canned applause she would have had none.

Would anyone know what happened to Roo Morgan? She shared the same name as a character on the Australian drama "Prisoner: Cell Block H."

Ah yes, when Roger Mudd defected from CBS to NBC after he was passed over for Cronkite’s chair at the evening news in favor of Dan Rather.

…only to be passed over at NBC in favor of Tom Brokaw (after a brief double anchoring arrangement with both).
