You can make a statistic say anything. We're seeing some reports of the new Telsa FSD that are not encouraging. I'm not anti autonomous driving, but staying cautious is the only path forward. There is no need to rush it, and our economy couldn't handle a quick transition anyway (i.e. - Uber drivers suddenly have no work)

We were driving in Phoenix June 21 from Mesa, a Waymo was standing still in a construction zone of the original road that cars were not supposed to be on, not the bypass. Everyone was slowing down to watch it. A police officer was trying to deal with it, not the same footage/road on this news report. I was a passenger in one back in April, made sure my seat belt was fastened. As in the words of the Jurassic Park "God help us, we're in the hands of engineers", lol. Humans...

I live in Phoenix and see these cars all the time, for every accident they do thousands of miles very smooth. This tech will save a lot of lives but is an extraordinarily complicated problem to solve, going to take some time, very happy Phoenix sees that and allowed them to run these cars here. Going to lunch with friends in a waymo tomorrow for my first driverless ride. Meeting at one friends house then summoning the car so we can all take the ride, it says it can take 4 riders.

The reasonable conclusion is humans and robots both have their strengths and weaknesses. At the moment, which strength or weakness is worst or best is as difficult to measure as which choice of major a student should decide on.

The mayor: "Yeah...I think this WILL be safer than a human driver EVENTUALLY." LOL. There was an uncomfortable pause and awkwardness in that moment when both gals realized that she basically just said they were presently in a dangerous vehicle. Also, why are they asking the MAYOR? Shouldn't they be picking up an engineer or tech person to address this issue. Would you ask the Mayor of Munchkin City, or the Mayor of Mayberry about the technical proficiency of AI-driven cars? (Awww...gee Andy, I don't know...I reckon they seem OK to me).

Waymo has a lot of guardrails that minimize the risk, so I'm not sure it's accurate to say "they were presently in a dangerous vehicle". Risk is a continuum. What might be more accurate is the risk cannot be determined.....there is no way to quantify it at the moment (and yes, I'm aware of all of the stats that have been thrown out there on autonomous driving, but we know a lot of those have been cooked, and the conditions keep changing so quickly, historical data is nearly meaningless anyway)

This is good however, you can't rely on it as any internet or technical problems it will be dangerous. It should a backup safety system by manual or complete stop to automatically call a replacement or assistance. If the sensors fails or rain or fog may hinder it.
@pennytrui1149
@pennytrui1149 4 ай бұрын
It uses many sensors to drive it isn't like a tesla it can see in total darkness, fog and rain because of the lidar sensor and radar, sensor. Plus it also uses 29 camera's it has a secondary computer in the car if the primary one fails so I think waymo got it covered if something happens
@shadowsnake3867
@shadowsnake3867 4 ай бұрын
@@pennytrui1149 it doesn't matter if you have sensors everything wears out as well. What if waymo's back up control happens to have a surge. The only way to make this work with less potential of risk is building something like the true recall movie a robot to be activated to take control of the wheel. You can put as many sensors there but exposure to outside elements wears them down. The other way is completely eliminate the ability of people to drive and you can set up everything to centralized in a single system. This would lessen the burden of relying on sensors. The sensor and AI function even failed to recognize a police and its gestures or voice. Tesla fails due to their focus of speed and if the car is moving too fast the sensors fails or their brakes gets worn out too fast due to how fast it is with you constantly breaking. However, Tesla still shows better results than waymo at the moment.

@@shadowsnake3867 um there's literally a video of waymo listening and reading signs of a police officer lol. Waymo has driven for years without any crashes meanwhile just yesterday I was in the news fsd drove onto a train track 💀. So I'm not sure it's doing better
@shadowsnake3867
@shadowsnake3867 3 ай бұрын
@@pennytrui1149 what it literally said waymo is declining to comment on the specific incidents. Just because waymo is operational doesn't mean it's doing well. If they are really confident on their product they would not even just hide it on a single controlled areas and a news reporter that they can control the questions or what they can show. A real one would go to tech expo be in the open with live demonstration, questions without control, and pinned against another developer. Being on the news is playing safe. If you do ratio and proportion of course tesla would out do waymo accidents as tesla is all over the world. Why won't waymo do the same thing. Simple you need control so any pr nightmare it's easier to put out on a mini state. If they are confident put it on new york, Los Angeles and Tokyo Japan one of the busiest cities and let's see how those sensors and AI can do.
