I became an avid viewer of NBC Nightly News back in 1980. I was too young to watch The Huntley-Brinkley Report with my parents back then.

My favorite one in this collection is the one which happens to have been a year before the infamous 9/11 (this one being 9/11/2000). I remember this one being on when I was a kid, and when it would close out they’d show Tom Brokaw on a screen in Times Square. It was so cool to see that every night.

The long closes at that time (not posted on this but the same period of Williams openings from late 1980's to 2010ish) when they had an extra 30 seconds or so were awesome. Now they just throw on some damn commercial when they have extra time most likely damn drug ad.

The sixties and seventies intros, I would watch their bulletins. Seems more today that the background music and flashy graphics set the scene for very not serious non-journalism. Simple intros, for simple presentation of what happened today. And I'm willing to bet, journalists of up to about forty years ago were bound by the standards of journalism at the time, which were more about presenting the facts as they were, instead of priming viewers' emotions with language full of adjectives in emotion-laden tones. If ever you are able to watch a bulletin from the seventies, watch that bulletin, and see what you understand happened that day. Then watch today's bulletin and see what you understand happened today. I'm almost certainly assured that you will remember what happened that day in the seventies better than you remember what happened today.
