The Ghost and Mrs.Muir was one of my favorites that year. With Hope Lange and edward Mulhare, it's too bad it didn't last. Lokking at these promos sure brings back memories.

The opening bumper, of course, is the one originally seen before the start of virtually NBC program from 1962 through '69 [a shorter version was used from '69 through '71). The "NBC Week" promos were created by an outfit named Feigenbaum Productions [note the name of the "fire eater" at :42]. "THE BEAUTIFUL PHYLLIS DILLER SHOW" was a short-lived comedy/variety series, replaced in January 1969 by Sheldon Leonard's equally short-lived "MY FRIEND TONY".

Great vintage '68 animation reel. It's already five stars just at that NBC peacock opening alone.. Nice work with all of these new uploads- well done.

"Madame X" appeared on "NBC MONDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES" on September 16, 1968 (so the promo at :27 aired a few days before). NBC staff announcer Vic Roby is heard on the Sunday promos; Bill Wendell on the Saturday ones and the "MONDAY NIGHT MOVIE" promo.

"THE NEW ADVENTURES OF HUCK FINN" was a short-lived Hanna-Barbera series mixing live action and animation (similar to Gene Kelly's 1967 "Jack and the Beanstalk" special, also produced by them).

I was starting kindergarten that season. I remember the premiere of 'The Ghost Of Mrs. Muir' & watching it every week with my grandmother. We loved that show & 'Dark Shadows' on ABC. Always missed the NBC peacock logo when it ended, I think in 1973 after a nearly 20 year run.

THIS is the NBC that i fondly remember! before they became "Nothing But Crap" in the 21st Century, the NBC Television Network 48 to 54 years ago,was THE place for great vintage and Family viewing, and i'd trade everything on TV today,to go back to those great and free TV days, when EVERYTHING was decent, and had class!! today in our present,NBC is nothing more, but a third place TV network, owned by Comcast, which hasn't done such a great job-their stuff is total shit today, and it hurts to see them go down hill that way!

Besides their Saturday Movie Night, NBC had both Monday and Tuesday movie nights with fewer action/adventure programming being ordered that year because of the public outcry against television violence following the assassinations of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Senator Robert Kennedy earlier in the year (as well as the pressure of watchgroups and anti TV-violence groups to curb the amount of violence on television).

I haven't watched Network TV in years, do they still do these premiere week promos? I used to like the extra thick TV guide Fall Preview, telling you about all the new shows. I don't even see TV guide at the supermarket anymore, used to be right at the check out lane.

Yeah? Guess you never missed "Soap Opera Digest" right next to it...(now "CBS Soaps"). Streaming and EPGs anitquated TV Guide, plus, like Reader's Digest, all you'd find are Geritol and Colonial Penn ads. I got plenty of those fat 1980s TV Guides still... nice and brittle like the shows.

Why is it these days when networks have their new seasons start out, they take a break and come back with only a handful of new episodes. Seems like there are more reruns of the current seasons than there are new episodes. For example, last night my Wed nite programs were reruns last night. THen there was an ad saying next week all new episodes until the season finale! It is now April, they have three weeks

Cost of producing shows, outrageous salaries to stars, competition, fewer people watching, sponsors harder to find. In 1968 there were just three networks, a few local stations, different demographics. Basically one view of humor, suspense, drama, beauty. Today there are thousands of stations, ipods, DVDs, and multiculturalism has ruined any sense of unity.

spideraxis I was going to add that the few independent stations relied on local and/or syndicated shows with OLD repeats of The Big Three filling in the gaps between news broadcasts, a thirteen-week minimum show contract with mid-season replacements and summer tryouts along with seasonal sportscasts and "movies of the week" fill-ins reducing the need for repeats (which only occurred on the SUCCESSFUL TV shows BTW)! Being a network exec (or a local station manager) must have been an ulcer-inducing job back then!

A LOT of promo copies survive only because they were archived on 16mm. Even though sentimental & nostalgic they are almost all on KZbin via 16mm film & not the original 2" quads. Wouldn't it be wonderful to find original tape in brilliant clear color!!!
