What Shatner has seen now and what has already been reported many times by previous Space Explorers is that planet Earth is rare beautiful precious and fragile. But we as a species are treating it's as if it can be replaced or thrown away when we are done with it. The populace that worry and moan about jobs governments economy Sports and free Britney Spears and things of that nature need to go up into space and look down and realize that none of that matters, if you don't take care of the planet.

I'm glad William Shatner made it to space. His emotion is genuine, you can tell. His description of the experience is amazing. When he talks about how thin the Earth's atmosphere is, is quite frankly profound. I could have listened to him for ages. If it wasn't for Star Trek, the original series that is, I'm sure I wouldn't have been an amateur astronomer. I would have loved Carl Sagan to have been able to do this trip into space. Its strange to think that in the not too distant future, these journeys will be so common, they won't even make the news.

Huge Star Trek fan here. I was thrilled yesterday to hear about William Shatner going up to space! His words are beautiful about this profound experience, and he was the oldest person to boldly go where no elderly man (90 years old) has gone before! Congratulations Mr. Shatner!

Godspeed Captain, glad he had a safe journey. I wonder if his thoughts and perspective are different to others because of his age? I mean no disrespect, but at 90 he is no doubt keenly aware of his own mortality, that he has fewer days ahead of him than he's left in the past. His comments on life and death make me think this was an almost spritual experience for him.

Comparing William's reaction versus Jeff's really shows the difference between non-psychopathic behavior and psychopathic behavior. Jeff could use his money and his power over the means of production to do amazing things that could benefit all of humanity but he doesn't. He wasn't changed by seeing the earth from space.
