Schoolchildren are basically being told by their parents they're supposed to feel bad about their school name. The idea that the name of the school will harm the children is ludicrous. Children are going to be exposed to names and a lot of other things they may not like throughout life and need to be able to cope with that. You can't go through life expecting everybody to change every time there is something that makes you uncomfortable. You have to learn how to cope with discomfort.

That people do not always see things your way does not mean they are not telling "the truth." There are many people with many different perspectives, and instead of demanding they see only yours it is more productive for you to be open to theirs, and for all involved to be open to how each other perceives things. I have no evidence to support that teaching history is "severely restricted" in Arkansas, Florida or any other state in this country. I suspect that the version you want taught is not being taught, and therefore to you the teachings are "severely restricted." If you are referring to "critical race theory" that is what is says it is - a "theory." It's one way of many to interpret history. As I understand it parents are objecting to it because the manner in which it is being taught is emotionally abusive. It is emotionally abusive to attempt to instill guilt in young children and try to make them feel responsible for things that they did not cause or to try to force them to perceive things in a manner that their parents and others in their community do not agree with. That is not "restricting" the teaching of history, that is respecting the rights of parents who do not see history the way you want. When children are older, like in high school, and are better able to think for themselves, I think at that point it is acceptable to offer something like "critical race theory" as an elective, not as a required course, for those who want to learn about it.

I noticed the controversy over school names. If memory serves, Stonewall Jackson broke the slavery laws of his time by teaching a Sunday school class for the children of his slaves. Robert E. Lee freed over a thousand slaves in his lifetime. He was originally opposed to secession, but assumed command of the Confederate forces after Virginia seceded. He had been Lincoln's first choice for the Union Command. While speaking of the Union, did you know that Mrs. Lee's slaves were freed before Mrs. Grant's? While we're thrashing around all these humanitarian concerns, take a look at the living conditions of the Northern urban poor.
