This is hardly a realistic scenario... US healthcare is flawed, but come here to the UK and we have our own problems...
@makmcdermott5 жыл бұрын
@@josephs3169, this is a very realistic scenario. I worked in group homes in Ontario, Canada that services children and youth with developmental disabilities and mental health issues. One little boy, about 6, had become a crown ward (ward of the state), during his parents divorce. The mother wanted nothing to do with the child and the father couldn't care for the child - either could afford to pay what it cost to keep the child in care (it was $250/day at the time). So, when they "refused" to take the child back, the Children's Aid was brought in and declared that they abandoned their child - allowing the child to continue in the group home. This happened to many children with Autism since the Harris Government in Ontario, decided to save money they wouldn't cover long-term care in group homes for children anymore. The only way to get the care covered was to either have the parents pay outright or for the child to become a crown ward. It can still happen today.

@caoimhejordan40474 жыл бұрын
@Jayne Eyre a lot of parents allow their child to dress as their preferred gender before they start any medical treatment. If the child is happy and outright says they want to be that gender, then the parents can bring them to a psychiatrist who will diagnose them with gender dysphoria. They'll get psychological help to deal with their dysphoria until they are an adolescent and then, and only then, they can begin sex blockers, which is a completely reversible process, they'll just start puberty a little late if they decide they dont want to continue. If they decide to come off hormone replacement, some effects are irreversible, but they're not life threatening, for example, if a girl took testosterone as they felt they were a boy, their voice deepens, bone shape changes and sometimes hair loss can occur, which are irreversible, but not major effects on the person. They know exactly what they're signing up for as they have to sign a consent form first which states everything that will happen to them during the treatment and what effects may be irreversible should they stop taking the treatment. Their parents also sign this form. No one likes a transphobe sweetie xo

If his parents relinquish him to the state he becomes a ward of the state, and the state pays for his expenses. How will they be a family again and reunited if they have no legal rights to him? What a horrible choice 😭

Imagine knowing the state has the ability to provide health care for your kids but only if you abandon it

This is a real thing and it's not just for mental health care. It's for heart surgery ,kidney surgery, and other major medical issues. This is something that SHOULD be brought up before congress.

I cannot imagine a country that treats its children so badly,I know it's just a tv program but it's based on real life.

When you let it get this far and they need this type of professional help because of that - it's the only right thing to do. Hopefully they do better with the other boy and also remember that he has to heal and that he's the victim.

So much of this show is "insurance shouldn't dictate care." It is maddening.

I came here because I just got flashbacks from this episode when I was going downstairs to get medication from staff and saw the child getting restrained and by the time I came to, I saw the doctor saying they think it'd be best if the hospital admitted him. I must say, the doctor is apparently a quack saying that there were no triggers. The boy was feeling overwhelmed by the doctor's questions and began to get sensory issues with the jacket which could indicate some form of OCD or developmental disorder. The doctor went to touch him and that is when the boy lashed out. The boy was triggered by something regardless if it was internal or not and the doctor said there was no reason. The boy's behaviour DOES NOT indicate that there was no reason. I came here looking for the video that included the thing that triggered me and the convo with the parents after and found this. This is more sickening than I thought and I'm sad to say that it's true. You know the staff that I was getting medication from? Yeah. I live in a group home and can most definitely verify and tell you that this actually happens. I'm gonna continue looking for the video so I can do a project with it and create more awareness, but yes, indeed, this sadly actually happens.
