It wasn't like we were making playoff runs these past couple of seasons. Ever since Tom Brady's departure, the team has underperformed with the exception of Mac Jones' first season. This shouldn't be surprising, this team will have a complete overhaul this off-season, they got the QB and now they need to build the oline and acquire talent at the receiver position.

Time to pull the cord … please don’t delay. Drake Maye has real potential. This isn’t just about a lack of talent. The coaching sucks.

Mayo has no business being in the position he is in. Impressing Kraft on a trip to Israel is what qualifies you to be a head coach? REALLY?? Why not interview Vrabel? This is Robert Krafts and Elliot Wolf fault. Elliot drafted the 3rd best Qb in the draft with the #3 pick, not a whole lot of brain power in that pick. The Polk pick was stupid when they could've drafted Adoni Mitchell, whose making plays with the Colts. Drafted ZERO offensive line talent and had Calvin Ridley/ Aiyuk both say no thanks to signing with the Patriots, even though the Pats offered the most money to Aiyuk. They should've signed an experienced coach in Vrabel and overpaid a little bit for Zac Robinson to be the OC who's having the Falcons offense playing pretty well.

Mayo was never anything but a motivational speaker UNDER Steven Belichick, the DC. This guy has ZERO ability to coach a football team. He learned absolutely nothing during his time with the Greatest Football Coach of All Time. He very clearly did absolutely NOTHING to prepare for this role, despite the fact that he knew he was going to be hired for it. He didn't take any notes on how to manage a team, manage a game, hire a staff. He did absolutely no networking in preparation for hiring a staff, as evidenced by the staff this team glued together at the last second.... Jerod Mayo is going to go down as, quite possibly, THE MOST INEPT COACH IN NFL HISTORY.

Still, Jerod Mayo KNEW this job was coming. He had the opportunity to watch and learn from the best to ever do it, along with Josh McD, Ernie Adams, Steven Belichick, and so on. He completely ignored these people and the opportunity he was presented with. He neglected to learn anything or prepare in ANY WAY AT ALL for this job. That is painfully clear. THAT is why it IS Jerod Mayo's own fault. It's not like he was just thrust into the role with no time or opportunity to prepare.

When Kraft committed to Mayo he committed to this, not only for this year but for the following four or five years. I have no doubt that he can develop into a great coach, but the key word here is "develop". It's just like Drake Maye. He may have the talent, but he still needs time to develop it. This development includes forming a team of competent coaches around Mayo that he can trust. The only reason Van Pelt is OC is that Mayo had no one else to turn to (and no real criteria, knowledge or clout to pick anyone truly competent). He could have placed an ad and hoped that someone good enough would attend the audition. What's likely going to happen now is that Van Pelt will get fired next pre-season and they will look for another candidate that might or might not work out. It will depend exclusively on luck and availability will be the first criteria, instead of merit. In the meantime, the Patriots are basically an expansion team (courtesy of Bill Belichick's lack of drafting skills) led by an ex-defensive player turned into a first-time head coach.

Let's hire a HC before we fire our current HC. Then after that, we'll decide who the GM is. But let's not actually give him the GM title because then we'll have to pay him more money. Also, Alex Van Pelt is cheap so let's hire him as OC. What happened to that, "player's coach" reputation Mayo supposedly had? Doesn't seem like his team likes him very much and why would they? Seems like Mayo is in over his head, routinely gets outcoached on the field and apparently can't manage his lockerroom.
