NC Barndominium Build - Framing Day 1 (setting brackets)

We finally made it to framing! We spent the morning getting the building layout as close to perfect as possible. That afternoon we snapped our chalk lines and anchored the post brackets to the concrete slab. We are now ready to put up some sticks!

There is a depth gage on the side of the drill. It's the silver rod. Other builders leave the tapcon screws in for more force resistance( 4@200/ or 4@300/ adds up).

Those numbers are good to know. I can always go back and throw the tapcons back in. Thanks!

Does rr buildings do the same with the brackets on the corners? I feel like I've been watching their videos for days trying to find a video showing how they address the corner brackets and having somewhere to nail the bottom girt.

Did you do any kind of extra concrete pier under where the posts will mount on these brackets or did you just pour a typical concrete slab with no turn down or pier?

There is a 12”x12”x24” footer under the edge of the slab along with a turndown edge. The footer and slab are tied together with 1/2” vertical rebar every 12”.

So a few things here. 1. You don't leave the dust in the holes. Blow them out. 2. If you're drill bit is short and you've got to do weird stuff to get the bit a little deeper: go back to home depot and buy a new but in the right length. 3. You can set the depth on the bit with tape, though my hammer drill has an adjustable depth setting rod. Dont take chances when building a house, man. There's no room for janky shit, especially when it's in an area you never see again once you start closing things up.
