In the options, when ordering, I’d still like to see trunk battery relocation possible to package in and some off road options as well for the sake of not-street stuff. Very cool to see how much is kept simple or stock though. Coming from all NC guys I cannot overstate how much we need and appreciate aftermarket support 🙏

We have done the engineering for trunk battery relocation in the past, that's a separate modification. Maybe we'll bring it back to market. There is no such thing as "non-street stuff" from a legal standpoint at the moment. If the RPM Act passes, that may be possible. But at the moment, we only offer fully emissions compliant options.

That would require an intake manifold to allow for proper emmissions management. Some day ill make one for my bbr itbs. Single skin carbon box hooked up to the stock cold air intake.

Please please please do testing on an NC1 with stock internals. I think its best to be 100% sure it will be safe for the engine than just 'probably safe'

The blue development car we are using is a 2006. We're also doing testing on an NC2 and NC3 to make sure we are covering all our bases. :)

We're hoping for a price similar to our NA/NB turbo kits, but we're still a little early in the process to quote a definite price yet. Sorry. We'll be sure to account pricing once we've got the exact kit components and suppliers nailed down!

That's actually un-true. We've done multiple restocks of our NA/NB kits recently, but they sell out in minutes. We're working hard behind the scenes to solve some supply chain challenges to keep more kits in stock and more often. Don't worry, more kits are coming very soon!

We've had some more delays on basically some paperwork stuff, so we're now hoping to have kits available closer to the end of the year. This is a perfect excuse to catch up on maintenance!

I’m pleased to see FM spending R&D money on this venture. Obvious how invaluable 3D printing has become to the add on retrofit market. You guys are doing your level best to fit this package in and around what is already there. Appears you already invested in the castings for the items you’re pretty sure you will commit to. Think I heard you were coming in around 8 lbs of boost which is very conservative and I like it. There are many of us that just want reliable street performance and want fair price with DIY with a fairly simple ECU Re flash when it’s all over. I was contemplating a super charger but just won’t take the chance on the current Kraftwerks offering though I like it as a possibility. If you guys start selling these I know I can trust your offering.. I’ll be waiting with my 08 NC1 and only 66k on it to contemplate this upgrade. Get it right before you release this. I know that you will

Cant wait! Just got a 2015 hard top GT with 24K miles! Was looking at the BBR kit but the price is just insane for their kit. So glad you kept chassis drilling to a minimal too. I will still feel terrible drilling into my chassis though for this kit lol. (Edit: Will there be multiple options for BOV’s as well? Im a stickler for blow off noises!)

Interested how your NC turbo vehicle will compare to my 2013 MX-5 Club Sport with 2.5L swap and BW EFR turbo kit. Currently making 360 rwhp (with aux map for GA inspection visits). Inspections not necessary in OK (being a red state). It is a hoot to drive. Feather foot for good fuel economy, or lead foot a leave that Neanderthal pickup driver wondering where did "that little secretary's car go??" Guess will have to visit at 2024 Summer Camp. BTW project vehicle LAVA is getting new aluminum lowering hubs for HPDE track days. Zoom-Zoom.

You'd think someone with that setup would understand that the FM kit has no aspiration of reaching those numbers. It is designed as a reliable and CARB legal setup as they clearly spelled out. Power will almost certainly be under 275whp. 240-250 is a good prediction.

Since the intake manifold has to come off to install clamps on the PCV valve hose(assumption based on other boosted NC’s) which will likely be one of the hardest parts of the install…have you considered producing a simpler intake manifold to go along with this turbo kit? Or considered partnering up with Fab9 on their new NC elite manifold which they mentioned they may pursue CARB certification? Seems like you have to skill, knowledge and tools necessary to build such a thing and having it all part of the original CARB certification would be nice! I believe they also are at MATG right now with their Elite manifold on display.

Why route the Crank case vent behind the turbo ( on the left) why not around the front (on the right hand side?

NC needs a chassis brace kit for daily use. Even with bottom braces it flexes a lot compared to RX-8 it is built from. An upper brace kit for daily use will help a lot. Bottom brace can only go so much.

There should be a test pipe available for off road use only, sold separately, that allows a race car to go from downpipe direct to midpipe.

I have a 2005 GTO with a CARB legal blower. 2 years ago when it was time to get smogged I was flagged for the software being different than the OEM. I told the smog tech and state ref that it had a CARB legal tune. They didn't care and failed me. Does anyone know what the state checks for in the software against a CARB legal kit?

If you had an EO for the tune, you should not have failed unless it had been modified from what the vendor supplied.

@@CarsandBikes We'd have to see if it's possible to implement flex fuel with an ethanol sensor with the stock ECU. They generally don't have any spare inputs.

Which tuner and software do you plan to use to tune it? Cant wait to see these out there... and this all but confirms the cosworth setup will never make a come back huh? Was really wanting to have one of each turbo and roots... 😢

We're working with an OE-level calibrator on the tuning. More details to come. The manufacturer of the hardware for our supercharger kits is not interested in making any more, unfortunately.

Any cooling mods you recommend to go along with this turbo kit? Maybe a specific radiator, ford motor craft PW625 water pump, oil cooler kit? Or could there possibly be some more products in development to go along with the release of the turbo kit we should hold out for?

For street use, you'll likely be fine with the stock stuff, partially because we're paying careful attention to water routing to decrease the load on the cooling system. Our white NC club test mule is still on the stock cooling system and it's stayed happy. For track use you'll almost definitely need upgrades, such as an aluminum radiator and potentially hood vents (we carry both of these things for the NC). We'll be doing more track testing in the near future to gather more data. Oil cooler kit probably won't be necessary for most, but that can depend on how hard you're planning on pushing it. Best thing to do is install an oil temp gauge in the sump and verify if you're oil is getting above 240-250 F.

How well would this fit a 2.5 L? Would this work well as-is or would I want to consider different individual parts or a different kit entirely?

As Brandon mentioned in the video, we have not physically tested this on a 2.5 swapped NC. It should work, as long as the distances don't change, but we are only focused on the emissions legal version for the factory engines. Less when theres a primary cat in the way. I doubt theres many turno builds out there retaining it to base a number off of, so this os pretty unique!

I believe a little over 300hp, then you will need to do some transmission and clutch mods is what the BBR kits claim. Maybe some head work too? Dont qoute me on that lol.

Do you know if this kit will be compatible with right hand drive and non usdm vehicles? The obvious issues being brake/clutch and steering column location. Also, do you know if this would be competitive in terms of price and performance with the likes of kits from bbr that we have available in the UK? Thanks.

We haven't taken official measurements yet, but we expect our NC Stage 1 Turbo kit will NOT be compatible with RHD NCs. We don't have a price nailed down just yet, but we aim to have a reasonably affordable package and competitive with other power-adder kits on the market.

Do you have correspondence with Mazda dealership service shops in Ontario and elsewhere in Canada? The question motivated, of course, by a desire to have professional (and properly tutored) local mechanics install the new kit--whenever you have it ready. On a related note, do you recommend replacement of the stock mid-pipe / cat and silencer (muffler) as well? I understand that the Super Q is one good brand... Finally, any reason why someone like me (2008 NC, 28,000 kms on the clock) would want the turbo rather than something like the BBR Super 200 kit?

Unfortunately, it's impossible for us to keep up with shops all over the continent. We recommend you talk to your local club to find out who a good shop in your area might be. We don't offer a training service, but we will have very clear instructions and any competent mechanic should have no difficulty in installing it. While we can't comment on the Super Q, changing the midpipe and muffler for higher flow parts will help improve spool. The Super 200 consists of some components to optimize the naturally aspirated engine. It will not have the same amount of torque or horsepower as the turbo and is not emissions legal in the US. While it will certainly be fun to drive, it's not going to be anywhere near as quick as the turbo kit.

You would have to make your own downpipe to replace the catalytic converter. We will not be supplying parts to remove the cat.

So, some of your other competitors have a problem with melting the plastics on the valve cover are you seeing that problem? If so how are you combating the heat problem?

I too am anxiously waiting to see what they come up with in terms of heat management. From what I’ve seen with the other NC top mount kit…heat is a major issue for nearby plastics, hoses and brake lines. Fortunately, I get the sense FM will figure it all out for us rather then push a kit to market as quickly as possible and let us figure it out by trial and error. Should be worth the wait.

@@airooter Not at this time. The hardware will fit (as best we know) but the engine management isn't there and there are emissions paperwork related reasons why we wouldn't chase an EO until the end of the model run.

We haven't test-fit our kit on an auto-NC yet, but it should work. :) We'll provide a more confident answer once we've done further testing.

Why is there no mention of super chargers for NC? They have non of the heat related reliability issues. Turbos share engine oil. It is particular tricky in cold climates in which you have to wait till engine heats up before driving off and you have to also wait to cool engine oil before turning off. Super chargers have non of that.

We prefer the power delivery of turbo chargers along with some of their other characteristics. You should really perform the same warm up and cool down procedures for both FI systems since it's best to have an engine at operating temps before running it hard and it doesn't take long to let the fans cycle off before shutting it down. If we get enough interest in SC, maybe we'll offer those too.???

It is not. All the hardware engineering is being done in-house at Flyin' Miata.

Finalizing a few of the smaller parts, and continuing to test and tune the kit overall. Things are going very well, and we are still on schedule for 2024 release. We'll be sure to announce when we have more concrete info to share :)

We'll try to take a closer look, but it's unlikely this will work on RHD cars due to the location of your clutch master cylinder and our turbo outlet. Sorry.

Thanks for the update. Wish I could buy it now but excited to see this evolve into an extremely reliable and proven kit. What is the threaded hole in the exhaust manifold for? EGT probe?

This car will have an extensive amount of sensors to help us fine tune and test the kit. We'll have sensors for pressure and temp in multiple places of the intake and exhaust.

The smaller hose that goes from the valve cover to the large intake hose will burn in that routing you show. Its resting right on the hotside of the turbo.

This is obviously not a running and driving car and these parts were loosely installed for the presentation video to discuss the development of the kit. Routing and parts are not final, and that hose will not touch the turbo in the final orientation.

We are deep in development and testing at the moment, so we don't have a final horsepower number yet. Once we have a tune in place and more extensive testing under our belt, we'll be able to share a final horsepower number :)

Just wondering where your getting your advertising advice from? There is no way this will be anywhere near 50 state legal at all. Coming from someone who the epa has hit for tuning there is no way this will be legal for emissions when your gonna have to upgrade injectors and tune, per the epa regulations if your changing anything pertaining to airflow or fuel flow it is completely illegal and there is no way you should sell that as a false 50 state legal item. And it’s gonna be your dealers and the shops installing these parts that are gonna get the fines for these and eventually the end user.

We work closely with SEMA and the ARB on emissions matters. We have turbo kits and a supercharger kit with EOs already, and some of those involve a reflashed ECU like this one. It is legal to make changes as long as you can prove to the EPA the changes do not affect emissions, and one way to do that is get an EO. We will not be offering custom tunes, the kit will come with a tune that will be developed by an OE-level calibrator. Don't worry, it will be 100% legal.

I feel like this is a waste of r&d.. I do track days in my Miata.. 99% of the time there’s not one nc.. and even the Friday night Miata car meet no nc around.. I do like the nc natural wide body lol

Several in my neighborhood too. I think the reason why not many arent seen is that its a newer car that was bought by people with more money than the folks that go to car meets and occation track events. Now that they dropped in price quite a bit in several areas, I started seeing them around a lot more often and driven by young guys now.

I agree with you to an extent. The NC is an expensive platform even all these years later. I know because I have an NC1 fixer upper. Just take a look at what people ask for used body components. Its ridiculous!! The NA and NB are much more affordable platforms.

17 states have adopted CARB standards. If you live in a state that doesn't care about emissions, there's plenty of options out there for you.

I get this, but I also feel responsible to reduce my impact. If its a few horse powers for a cleaner future, I'd comply. I was actually happy to see the effort to keep it carb compliant.
