What really helps is the crash bars and bags not letting the bike actually get laid all the way over. When a bike is laying all the way on its side with no crash bar or bags to keep it at about a 45 degree angle it is definitely a lot harder to get back up.

Thanks for showing up the demonstration of the way to pick up the Honda Goldwing 1800.My present bike is Yamaha FJR1300A(2003year model) and I need to reinforce the tip over protections for my FJR.

I have the 1800 Goldwing and the FJR too and I would rather pick up my GW as my FJR! 🤣🤣🤣 I will say that I do have the rubber bump stops on the side of my FJR though and I highly recommend them 👌

The point of this is that you don't "lift" a big bike, you "roll" it over to upright. It's better to use the small of your back against the saddle (if you can get it down that far) and lift with your legs, not pull with your arms (she sat on the saddle and pulled with her arms). Also, it helps to grab the front brake while doing this to keep the bike from wanting to roll forward. This is also where bystanders can help - show them what is safe to grab on to and help stabilize the bike as you lift it. It doesn't matter what side you're on, the procedure is the same, and yes, I've righted it from both sides. This is made easier because the Wing has front and rear crash bars that it lands on when you tip over, so it only goes over about 45 degrees. If it keeps rolling over the crash bars you'll start breaking windshields and such, but you just lift it back over to the crash bars and proceed. (Of course, if you're that bad off it may be the tow truck driver that's doing it).

Just put bike in gear and won't need to use brake at all. Use both of your hands for pulling bike up. I agree with everything else. Makes it so much easier to just put bike in gear and come on up with it.

You could also put the kickstand up on the other side if you're by yourself as to not tip it over the other way (that is, if you lay it down on the right side).

A lot of comments about it being on the RIGHT side and having the kickstand to keep it from dropping left after picking it up... so, if it's laying on the LEFT side just pick it up as shown and let it drop onto the right side, put down your kickstand, and then lift it back up. Happy?

@@surg23 All sorts of things can happen in the heat of the moment after you’ve dropped your bike. It may not be stupidity; it may be an adrenaline rush, the need to act urgently to avoid danger, someone rushing to help so you go along with the offer, etc. I think it’s good advice to remind people here to take 20 seconds to take stock of the situation. The includes putting the kickstand down and checking it’s fully down. It’s easy to leave it slightly less than fully down when you’re manipulating it from such an unfamiliar angle.

Next time lay out a piece of cardboard so you don't scratch the bars. And she did have a little bit of a problem but it was down hill. It is the best way to pick up a LARGE motorcycle. If you alone and it is on the RIGHT side, hold the front brake and make sure you put the kick stand down in case it goes to far. If it is on the left side.....well, make sure it doesn't go too far! lol

Well, I’ve seen this way before, always on this side, because if you put her on the side of the crutch? How’s the lift going if you’re alone? I "posed" 3 times my suzuki 1500 intruder (c90 boulevard for USA) whose once on crutch, I raised his 325kg because I had a big adrenaline rush due to the fall of my bike but?

do you need two people if it falls on the kickstand side or its easy enough with one
@agentgfh8 жыл бұрын
I mean obviously its easier (and frankly probably safer) with two but you can do it with one. You just have to be aware of how far up it is because if it starts to tip over the other direction while you are squatting against it and aren't prepared for it to tip, you can bet your ass that you're going down with it.

Question to all: How do you pick up your Goldwing or similar sized bike when you are on loose sand, dirt or gravel? The method you demonstrated will NOT work if your feet do not have a good traction surface...so now what? Good Rides
@Chris-fq4xz3 жыл бұрын
You cannot do it if you're on sand, dirt or gravel. Also I only see them lifting bikes when there are down on the right, when they have the convenience of a kickstand on the left. It's a whole nother story if it's down on the left side.
