My ancestor, David Hicks, "the Tory" because he took the Oath, was one of the first settlers on the Watauga River in North Carolina. He was the first settler to apply for a land grant of 300 acres on part of Watauga River where he had settled in 1777, and applied on 2 January 1779. He was the first settler of Valle Crucis, Watauga County, North Carolina. Many cousins still live in Vilas and Valle Crucis area. Before 1800, many families moved into Washington Co., Tennessee. Love you research. Thanks for sharing.
