@stephenc9999 Grassie has always played his defenders high. It's their system. I have mixed thoughts about that philosophy of play but it's served them well. It's how they played in OT to beat Indiana in the 2020 championship. I wouldn't have made strategic changes either.

Dear Marshall, I was supporting you. I was recruited by Georgia State. Dear Marshall defensive back that was next to the Vermont forward who scored the winner, congratulations on getting as far as you did with Marshall. You made the decision to risk it all by lunging to rob the ball from the Vermont forward who went on to score the goal. When I was your age, I might have done the same thing. So, please know that. But, when I saw the replay, the older and more knowledgeable me would simply done my best to stay with him as long as possible without dropping to the floor at all. May this experience bless you in some way. Peace, Miles

Center back sliding in that moment... Your job in that moment is to stay involved in that play. Why slide in 1v1 isolated where, if you miss, you are completely out of the play? Just do what every player is taught to do for years, delay. You don't need to win the ball, just stay in front of him, or at least be a nuisance, if he gets in front of you. I understand sliding if the player is in a really dangerous position to shoot right away, but he wasn't, forward still had plenty of work to do and had to cut in after the defender slid. Silly decision making. But, hey, congrats to Vermont. Great game.

@@magamaga1827 I'm just a random european guy who watched this clip because it popped up in my timeline. Apart from the MLS, I don't really know much about american sports. but maybe it will be like in our hockey league. There are countless americans and canadians playing, who didn't make it into the NHL. Maybe not many americans play there, because our football isn't really popular in the usa.
@magamaga18275 күн бұрын
@@markusvienna231 I happen to be an ex hockey player as well as former American college soccer player. Firstly, internationals that play in the UK hockey league are no different than playing in the Prem. It's PROFESSIONAL. American colleges ARE NOT. They are schools first, sport second. And very expensive. Americans pay tons in taxes for these schools to exist, yet can't afford the tuition. One way Americans can afford schools is by playing sport, like football/soccer, via scholarship. What has hapenned is the top schools are now more focused on the sport aspect and not the academic aspect, thus they go to Europe and elsewhere for more seasoned/older players to replace younger Americans. These foreigners also take away scholarships from American kids. That's the big problem with it! If Euros wanted to go play in MLS soccer, go for it. But stop coming to our schools via sport.

Wow! That last goal though. Congrats Vermont! Where were the other defenders on the winner? Everybody was 20 yards deep on the other side of mid. Forward had so much time to juke and when the ball goes in and there's not one defender except the goalie on the screen. The defense was way out of position, and no one reacted with any kind of urgency to get back when they turned it over. And the last man, brother you gotta foul there you can't let both man and ball through.

I feel like you’re being a bit harsh with this one, think about it for a second the amount of games played and studying simultaneously and then to play 90 minutes and then overtime your body is exhausted and your brain just isn’t thinking straight, everything is relative and sure maybe he could have made a burst to try get there but I’m pretty sure the reason why he made that tackle was because that was the last amount of energy he had left but either way I felt like Vermont could have won the game with the earlier shot that should have been a pass to the guy in the 6 so there’s always going to be stuff someone could have done more or better. For me I also say the comment of delay but let’s be realistic nobody is thinking about these things as much when it’s a split second decision like that these guys aren’t at that level to I’m afraid they’re in college and most college players have never been in a professional environment where the brain is what does more work than the body. So again he could have tried to also delay but from the look of it he was gassed and tried a last ditch tackle while the player he was up against had more energy and I’m guessing was a sub in my opinion once it’s a foot race the defender has already lost unless he’s fast which he probably wasn’t
