What a performance by BOTH these incredible Athletes 🔥🔥🔥🔥 I've never actively searched a college NCAA Cross Country final in my life, before today.😏 And I must admit... the hype for this Battle did NOT disappoint. I'll also admit my prediction was wrong..... even though Touhy got the better of Parker in the Track season NCAA 5km Final, I thought Parker's improvements since then, and that graceful steady stride of hers, would be the difference here today. I was wrong, and I'll never underestimate Katelyn's POWER and will to win again. She simply dug deep, didn't panic when many would have early on and roared to an incredibly impressive WIN!! And can we take a second to appreciate the raw natural talent Parker possesses. WOW... What a race..!!👍👍

@MrRandallia2 жыл бұрын
I was amazed to see Valby say in an interview after the race that she doesn't know how to identify tangents on the course and ends up just following the cart. You can see examples of her running extraneous distance at 5:15, 11:02, 12:56, 14:05. In the last example you can see Tuohy runs a straight line while Valby runs an "S" shape. All small inaccuracies, but altogether they probably add up to a number of seconds lost. It'll be interesting to see the Tuohy-Valby rivalry develop this coming track season where this difficulty won't come into play.
@peterdvideos2 жыл бұрын
Interesting observation!
@machineofadream2 жыл бұрын
Very good analysis. The announcers pointed out when she took the lead that one of the advantages of leading a race is being able to run the perfect line through the course. To blast into the lead every race, then not take advantage of the tangents seems counterproductive. Also, all of the other women in the 10 ten equalled or surpassed Valby's final split, some of them significantly. It makes me wonder if Valby could run faster with a more measured pace throughout the rest of the race.

Fooking excuses, tuohy is 3-0 against valby so far bud!

In her interview afterwards, Parker Valby said she thought after the last incline there was 800 meters to go. Then when she realized she was wrong - there was less than 200 meters - she knew she had no shot at Tuohy. That’s why you don’t see Parker gritting her teeth, or pumping her arms ; she never got the chance to sprint to fight it out. She also said she’s still clueless about how to take the tangent path around curves and so she always ends up running way wider and longer in big meets. Her coach needs to show her the course on Google Earth and then take her in a golf cart through the course a couple times before a big race. I’m looking forward to a rematch of the 5,000 meter track championships. Last year Tuohy outkicked Parker, but Parker had only been back to running for two weeks due to an injury.

Beautiful race and an amazing group of talents. However, how many of them will shine internationally? NCAA is such a demanding program for long-distance runners all year long (especially indoor) that very, very few of them manage to stay in top shape for the summer season, and in the long run, very, very few of them manage to have a long fruitful career after university to represent the USA.
@machineofadream2 жыл бұрын
It's not that they aren't doing well on the international scene, it's just that it's so incredibly competitive. Of course only the best of the best will do well in international competition. In an individual sport the stakes are much different. Being the 200th best basketball player in the world mean you're a career NBA player. In running you're the best or nobody cares.
@SergeLabelle2 жыл бұрын
@@machineofadream Thank you for your comment. As a former national and Olympic coach in long-distance events (Canada), I've seen numerous talented runners from the USA worn out after a very busy indoor season, not even making the final in major summer championships and it saddened me because I knew they could do so much better. This is why all my athletes refused any NCAA scholarships. At the same time, you are right when saying that they get no recognition by being 8th in the world and probably enjoy being a superstar at home (winning NCAA).
