On November 11th, 2016, The North Carolina A&T State University Drumline also known as "Cold Steel" presented the clinic "The Best of Both Worlds: A Hybrid Drumline in a Traditional World" at the 2016 Percussive Arts Society International Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The Percussive Arts Society (PAS) is a non-profit, music-service organization whose mission is to promote percussion education, research, performance and appreciation throughout the world. Today, the society is almost 7,000 members strong, with 50 chapters located across the United States and an additional 28 chapters outside the U.S. Each year PAS hosts the largest percussion convention in the world, the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC), featuring the top names in drumming and percussion.
Being selected out of hundreds of applicants to present at PASIC 16 was an extreme honor as each clinician or group is charged with the task of bringing their selected skill to the thousands of percussionist in attendance. What made this opportunity unique is the fact that this was the first HBCU drumline to present a clinic at the convention. There have been exhibition performances from a handful of groups in the past, but this was the first opportunity for a HBCU group to serve as a selected clinician. This was a major honor for the students, staff, band program, the university and HBCUs as a whole.
