I wonder if the "body" Amado is working on is actually a replacement for Shibai. Shibai in the folklore tricks others, so he could be tricking Amado into believing he's working to revive his daughter as a deception by Shibai, and is instead reviving Shibai. We never see the body Amado is working on after all. And by experimenting in adding Shibai's abilities to the other androids, he also learns how to add those powers back to Shibai himself. The thing with storytelling in Naruto is that nothing should be directly taken as face value when it comes to stories about powerful entities from the past (such as Hashirama, Hagaromo, and even Kaguya learning that she was actually suppose to die for a divine tree and rebelled). We'll be told a version of information about the powerful characters at first, then get their true details later on. So everything we know about Shibai right now could end up being rubbish or straight up deceptions eventually.

He's definitely hiding his true intentions. We've seen that he is a very methodical and knowledgeable man. He's able to plan several steps ahead of those he is deceiving, manipulating them the do exactly what he wants. He was even able to earn Isshiki's praise when he forced Isshiki to reincarnate in Jigens body and simultaneously remove Kawakis Kāma. He could be motivated by his own agenda or he could be working for someone else, it's hard to say at this point.

Hey NCHammer, here’s a new theory, Why is Boruto horns similar to Shibai’s horns. Also, This is my theory that when Amado gave Boruto the Byakugan pills to suppress Momoshiki ‘s possession percentage. He was secretly feeding him Shibai’s DNA as well. Boruto already has The Jougan which could also be from Shibai which through the right mixes of DNA had came into Boruto. Amado feeding Boruto pills to “slow down the otsutsukification” would be the best explanation to why he has Shibai’s horns. Remember Amado snuck the karma back into Kawaki and no one even knew. So perhaps he’s doing the same with Boruto? At the end of the day their all just his Guinea Pigs

If Amado is Shibai, another route I just thought of is that maybe Shibai grew tired of his omnipotent existence and decided to downgrade himself to experience life as it was meant to be experienced. In doing so, he experienced all of the emotions that he once cast aside. His daughter meant everything to him but without the powers that he cast aside, he was unable to bring her back. Anyways, one thing that bothers me about Boruto is that the writer(s) completely ignore that the afterlife undeniably exists. This is shown multiple times throughout Naruto - all of the Edo Tensei, Hagoromo returning to speak to Naruto and Sasuke, Rin pulling both Kakashi and Obito to help in the battle against Kaguya, Obito returning after death to help Kakashi, etc. They really couldn't just tell Amado that his daughter's spirit is in the afterlife?

I would find it rather interesting if Shibai, being likely far older than any of the Otsutsuki we’ve met so far, hails from a different age where the Otsutsuki Clan walked a different path; leading him to disapprove of something about their current methods. He doesn’t need to be a good guy or anything, but he could’ve given Amado a Karma marking so that Amado would have access to his knowledge, and would thus become a massive stumbling block for the Otsutsuki, all in an attempt to change their path to something Shibai likes better. This would make Amado effectively a prophet of this god, and would also tie in with the alternative theory of Amado being more like the peasant being given information. This could even have Shibai steering the Otsutsuki into a direct battle with Earth instead of sneaking around like pansies, as he might perceive it. 🤣

My theory is actually pretty close to this. Amado obviously knows a lot more than he lets on. I'm guessing he communicates directly with Shibai even if Shibai is vague about what he actually wants. So Amado is doing what he thinks Shibai once while also trying to get his daughter back. Or he's an Otstustuki. Which is what I thought until the daughter stuff came in.

Amado isn't shibai. If you look read properly, and see the holes. You'll notice that shibai needed another otsutsuki to ascend to godhood. That other otsutsuki is Amado. If shibai kept eating Chakra fruits. Amado wouldn't gain any power, but knowledge. 1. Knows too much about the otsutsuki for a mortal 2. Has seen shibai's corpse 3. The established character in Naruto which Shibai appears most similar to is actually Haguromo. Obviously not the same person, but I find it bizarre that no-one has looked deeply into the similarity. Namely, that they both 'ascended to a higher plane of existence', but are also both active concerns for the people left behind.

Unless the story of Shibai is an outright lie. Maybe what the Otsutuski believe about Shibai was simply false the whole time. What if Shibai isn't the all powerful god that everyone thinks. Just maybe Shibai instead was an Otsutsuki that stopped following the way of the rest (maybe had a daughter he loved and lost then deciding what they had been doing was wrong). Possibly to hide what he was doing he made up the story of himself becoming the "god" of the Otsutuski to be able to disappear to find a way to get his daughter back? It would still work with it all being an "act" to deceive everyone around him. Sadly it will likely be the most obvious thing in the end and not some creative original work.

These are some very compelling theories. I think it makes sense that Amado either does personally know Shibai, or that he's working with Shibai's lower. It is odd I've never heard anyone talk about his lower before. His lower could be trying to ascend like Shibai, but in a much faster way by using bits of Shibai. My guess is that Shibai exists simultaneously in both his own dimension and through a karma put on Amado that even Amado himself doesn't know (he could alter his memories with omnipotence anytime) and he truly wishes to be with his daughter or maybe his duo partner in his own dimension, but for that he needs that person to be strong enough and have all the power he used to have when he ascended, so he gives Amado all the tools he needs to "bring back his daughter" but in fact it'll be Shibai's partner and with Shibai's power she too will join him in another dimension. Maybe Shibai feeds upon the Ten Tails or creates Ten Tails out of pure nature energy in the hope that every other Otsutsuki could eventually join him as a God. Or maybe the Ten Tails has a deeper connection to Shibai, that would be interesting considering Boruto knows the true horrors of Ten Tails.

1. EMS isn't guaranteed to work with everybody's eyes. Also he had to be quick about killing his clan, Obito was only able to take those Sharingan because he transported those corpses with his Kamui. 2. I'm pretty sure Guy didn't keep his weights on knowing he was going into WAR. So he most likely didn't have them on. 3. Madara did use Izunas eyes, he learned how to obtain an EMS after reading the Stone Tablet with his Mangekyo and after his brother died he took his eyes.

I mean, we all know that Amado's REAL identity is Hayao Miyazaki. Just look at that beard! But for real, I like both the original theory and your own take an equal amount. Karma is the measure by which a soul is weighed during reincarnation (as I understand it), and if one accumulates enough of it they may reincarnate to a higher plane just like Shibai did. But reincarnating to a higher plane is not the same as reaching enlightenment; you are still bound to the cycle of reincarnation, not free of it. It's entirely possible that Shibai failed to achieve enlightenment in his higher plane and reincarnated back into ours due to a lack of Karma. Equally possible is that Shibai created an avatar for himself to protect his earthly body; namely, Amado, who may or may not be aware of this. Or perhaps Shibai's whole arc is that his pursuit of power and knowledge lead him to learn that the best life one can live is to love and protect one's family, and so he chose to give up his godly status to reincarnate as a mortal and have a family, and only is interacting with the Otsutsuki at all because his daughter died and he hasn't learned how to detach himself yet. Regardless, I find it interesting that "shibai" means "a theatre play" and "amado" means "shutters," which could refer to the shutters of a film camera? And Amado's last name "Sanzu" is a reference to the Sanzu River (the River of Three Crossings), which is a bhuddist parallel to the River Styx in Greek Mythology that separates the land of the living from the land of the dead. That could either be a reference to how Amado is separated by death from his daughter, and is trying to bridge the gap to bring her back, or it could be a reference to his nature as a karma-marked individual for either Shibai or his partner, being a bridge for them or Shibai's power to cross back into this world.

Well... if you became a millenia-old godly entity with your own state of existence separate from the rest of the universe where you can mold everything to be however you want whenever you want... you'd probably get bored, yeah? Nick, what if Amado IS actually the lower-ranking Otsutsuki of Shibai. Maybe He was fed to the ten tails and placed a karma marking on the current body he had, or as you pointed out, the way Isshiki's method worked. And thus he has a much more grandous plan hiding behind the one about his daughter (something like Black Zetsu did). I can't think of how his method works, though. It can be that he needs to connect his karma with one of the higher-ranking Otsutsuki, to be reborn as higher-ranking one, and he uses Shibais DNA very masterfully. Idk, but something like that. And surely Code's karma also has a relation to that.

What if all of the events of Boruto are part of a long-term ploy by Shibai to create artificial Otsutsuki... so he can absorb them and keep evolving _beyond_ godhood? We have a precedent, where Momoshiki permanently absorbed Kinshiki to evolve to a higher form. In Shibai's case, after who-knows-how-many-thousand worlds, you're going to get diminishing returns with each planet; it's probably more effective and efficient after a while to gain Chakra by consuming lower-ranking Otsutsuki, as it'd be like consuming _lots_ of planets worth of Chakra all at once.

What if Shibai also had a daughter that died? That could be a link to or a parallel with Amado that would be a good explanation for why he's getting involved in things. Maybe he ascended and found out later that she died and somehow incarnated into the mortal world again to bring her back, or she died and his ascension was interrupted or ruined and he's trying to bring her back or fix it. Would be hilarious if it's Kaguya who was Shibai's daughter, but I can't remember any other female Ootsustuki off the top of my head? To answer the question of ‘why’ I may have a theory: so if Shibai was dead, Toneri could have stolen his pure eye and given it to Boruto because he is the most compatible in terms of genes. What if, the vessel of Shibai (aka Amado) is looking for that eye or maybe he already knows that Jougan belongs to Boruto. There’s a possibility that Jougan cannot be taken back unless it has to go through some kind of development, like the Sharingan. It could be that Amado’s waiting and scheming so that Boruto develops Jougan fully, so that he can take it back. After all, we don't know what Urashiki meant by “you think you’ve made your first move by doing this to that woman’s son ”
