My comment can be construed as I’m against the opposition… the truth is the exact opposite. I think for the opposition to be effective, they need to bring an alternate voice that will not be easily defeated by the ruling party with simple rules of logic and argument. The WP has done particularly well in this aspect… making statements that are measured and backed by verifiable facts, not hear say or an opinion. LMW will be well served to have a good legal professional on his team… or else repeated episodes like this will only take votes away … especially from thinking and intelligent voters.

LMW's "muddy the waters" means in relation to the comparison between the KOM case and the LHY case. He did not accuse Shanmugam of trying to confuse parliament. LMW was just questioning why LHY was named but not those in the KOM case, and so bringing in another case, Karl Liew's case, would muddy the waters, would confuse the comparison between just the 2 cases. Basically, he did not say Karl Liew's case is irrelevant (for a discussion in a broader context), but it may be irrelevant to the comparison when you just want to compare the 2 cases specifically. So whether it is relevant, it depends on whether you are trying to discuss at a broader context or whether you just want to focus on comparing the 2 cases.

Sound legal technicalities, which a non-legally-trained person would not be capable of debating with. "Lying under oath" was established. Intention? Most probably just to defend their dad's wishes. "No guilty verdict" established. Reason? As far as I understand, it was because the defendants denied all the way. That does not exonerate them completely from being guilty. As for the Parti Liyani case, it was a clear gross miscarriage of justice, which has deep implications on the confidence of a person of a weaker social standing, to be protected. One may establish sound principles of legal technicalities, but can I also ask of the Law and Home Affairs Minister to fight for justice, not just for politics?

Reason is, *English is such that a word or sentence can be INTERPRETED Differently depending on the context and what type of English* is used.
