Our recruiting experts give some examples of what being coachable and uncoachable looks like to college coaches.
Coachable
• You are willing to learn and improve
• You actively listen to constructive criticism from coaches and apply that feedback in practice and competitions
• You are open-minded and willing to make changes that will improve your game
• You understand that constructive criticism is meant to help you improve and not to be taken personally
Uncoachable
• You pout, eye roll, or complain when you disagree with direction or criticism from coaches
• You dismiss criticism from coaches and don’t apply the feedback
• You are close-minded and unwilling to make changes to improve your game
• You take criticism personally

One can be willing to be coached and very coachable, but have some minor hangup that can easily be alleviated with ...a bit of coaching or talk. It is unfortunate that many are quick to presume the contray without investigating. Such a label may in fact aggravate the hangup for another time, quite unnecessarily. Some probably are spoilt, arrogant or whatever, but sometimes the behaviour can be a superficual and easily solved protective defense behaviou, and uncertainty. Please give people a proper chance, don't presume you know they are uncoachable.
