@fsjukebox5 жыл бұрын
Giffica please don’t sound so unnecessarily condescending. I’m not a new fan either. This video far exceeds the typical “sm box” setup in its complexity. The fact that they shot this and Highway to Heaven (which is admittedly simple) within a 24 hour shoot and got those VFX ready within a month is very impressive and it’s my personal opinion as someone interested in both kpop and video production. The amount of compositing, lighting interaction and tracking that had to be done is something I’ve rarely seen in a music video, kpop or otherwise, and it’s fascinating to watch in slow motion (please do it if you have the time). Usually cgi-heavy videos require a lot of preparation time (there was almost none for this project) and here the effects are *the focus* of the video because of the obvious limitations of the footage they could get. The team was in an unbelievable time crunch. One of the producers said how difficult this process was given the deadline. Props to them! PS. NCT is absolutely pushing the envelope with the VFX in their videos, first with the Chinese Regular, then Take Off, now this. What an exciting time!

Sm did a good job rigging the fandom this time. Pulled the same thing they did with Overdose. Funny fans are falling for the same pre-release "oh wait music video is delayed" trap again just to build hype. Kind of kills it when you know Sm is lying about a delay just to build hype until search results reach a certain number of trends, so that when you release it gets to the top and gets a spotlight effect to increase awareness. Western artists do this all the time, almost every single western artist is forced to get a certain number of likes/comments on their Instagram posts before they are allowed to release albums. Once you understand the mathematics of how music gets trendy/popular it kills the mystic.

@@giffica why so salty? lol
@giffica5 жыл бұрын
@@serenatang5739 Right but it's not less complex than Superhuman, structurally. And the point is that every is simply copying still. It's all a generic "formula" rather than PUSHING the formula, which is what made it great in the first place. Sure, it's a GREAT song, and I'm listening on repeat, but is it really a NEW song? Does it really do what Everybody did when we first heard it? Does it have the sort of impact choreography wise than TVXQ's Hulk Dance during Catch Me? The point being, no. It simply doesn't. We sometimes get extremely fresh things, I liked Limitless a LOOOOOoooOOOOT more than this. I think NCT's best song is My First And Last. I'm a real NCT stan when it comes to this shit, and I enjoy their music. My point was, this song doesn't BLOW ME AWAY. It's all within a predictable range, and it doesn't hit the same highs that shinee hit when they did similar styles. At times you hear the TVXQ influence all over NCT, and that's fantastic. It doesn't particularly feel uniquely NCT, in any way. Which is a general boy group problem in the last 3-4 years, everyone is fairly similar without a distinct sound. There is a "sound" at the time everyone copies, rather than trying to innovate and make a particular "concept" trend. This is prolly down to a lack of producers, and people buying songs from the same few producers, but I disgress. The point is this. Sonically, what has NCT offered that SHINee, TVXQ, Suju, EXO didn't innovate? The thing NCT has added is "concept". The general group conception, level of promotion, etc and so forth. These are the hallmark of the 4th generation. I understand you don't grasp my lens, but from where I am looking, i am seeing the same formula being replicated, which different optics behind the groups. Whether it's Loona's concept, NCT's, or hell even Izone and I stan Izone almost as hard as I stanned Kara back in the day. Izone might be my 2nd favorite group of all time, but that remains to be seen what the next few months hold. I'm not "against" the new generation. I just have a problem musically, and maybe choreography/talent wise with this new generation. It's clear to me, and to most of the Korean general public, that idols now are mostly wealthy kids from wealthy families. Not all, ofc, generalizations don't apply to EVERYONE, but on the most part they are wealthy chaebol kids. Could name a few examples, i won't. We know the names. You get genuine guys like Kang Daniel from time to time who really deserve everything, and back in the day we had Sunny, Sooman's niece, so she's hell of a Chaebol, but that was "sunny's thing", that was kind of her entire concept to the Korean general public, so we let it slide. Now, it appears to anyone looking from the past that current groups are doing an "imitation" of what they grew up "wanting to become" rather than "wanting to produce music, joining any company they can, and having the company tell them this is their concept and we're doing some weird marching band shit" *cough afterschool*. Kpop is less about picking Yuhno from the streets and signing him to a slave contract, and more about "WHAT A GREAT PERFORMANCE!" with no insight into if it really WAS a great performance. I really don't know what is going to happen when this veil you guys have over the 4th wave collapses, but to be honest, nothing changed for us about the Seungri scandal. That was all understood and a part of entertainment since the days of Frank Sinatra. What's going to be a problem is when this facade you guys insist exists in Kpop collapses, the facade that we weren't in denial of. The 48 hour video shoots with no sleep, the slave contracts, the forced concerts they have to give to wealthy people, the chronic lack of REM sleep which causes long term dementia, chronic anorexia in the industry, physical fights between group members (yes, even my SHINee boys have beaten the shit out of each other, I don't get why you guys get upset when people mention shit like that), the numerous dating scandals, the shear level of senior power abuse, EXO/almost everyone else being hyped up on amphetamines, the list fucking goes on and on man. I really could come up with another 15 things along that are heart shattering in and of themselves. For fucks sake Bom is my goddess, I know the downfalls of being an idol and where this ends up for most of your biases. When the veil pops, what's going to happen? Will you repeat the same cycles we did? Will you tear them down, then build them back up like heroes? Will you lose interest in oppa because he's fucking another female idols you have a jealousy over? Self awareness will help ease the burden of these impacts the deeper you people get. My bubble popped when we personally revealed the Ailee nude scandal had been leaked by Allkpop's co-founder and Ailee's ex-boyfriend Daniel to the world, and then AKP wiped the entire forum, and central international Kpop community hub. That's when i realized these people are different behind the veil we put up and stopped following the media play these companies propagandize to the public.

Y: 1. VOCALS. SM has never failed to keep up with their vocal harmonizations, whether it was songs ten years ago or modern songs (unlike many other current bands, this trend has fallen) 2. BGM. The heavy bass line definitely reminds you of SHINee's most popular songs, even that of Sherlock and Everybody, combining the heavily used yet perfectly matching synths and elements EDM. 3. PIANO!?!?!??! And yet within all this electronic beat SM always throws in a piano or a peaceful part in the middle to perfectly balance out and bring out the classical within the modern. 4. ADRIAN MCKINNON IS A LEGEND- I mean this guy composed so manY. SO. MANY. Of SM's gem songs, even if they are not hyped enough by the public. 5. ROMANTICISM. SM always manages to make their heavy music somewhat romantic, and its quite of a recurring theme within songs composed by LDNoise, in which many of them are composed alongside Adrian Mckinnon. FOUR WALLS? LIGHTSABER? LUCKY ONE? WHITE NOISE? FOREVER? GRAVITY?

I think a breakdown/comparison with the SM sound would be great, especially with SMent's evolution of sound from Yoo Young Jin and Kenzie to LDNoise and Jam Factory and all the other amazing composers SM has recruited over the years. I feel like there's a borrowing from every element of TVXQ!, SuJu, SHINee, and EXO, the elements that propelled them to stardom and solidified them as both an SM group and as their own individual band's sound. This song is SM the Performance (SMP) genre taken to crazy levels with all the half-time verses and chord progressions, the layering is top notch SM as always, I really feel like this song could've easily gone to SHINee or EXO (cough superpowers + superhuman??), but giving it to NCT was a really great way to really connect them to the SM brand and move towards a more... user-friendly sound? Kinda like EXO's shifts from MAMA and Wolf to their current sound that is still typically experimentally SM, but it's not as jarring as like, Cherry Bomb on first listen (I remember people were like "where is the chorus" when it was released haha). I actually cried watching the MV when it was released because, as someone who's been in K-pop for 10 years (and a hardcore SM stan throughout), it's really amazing to see the magic SM consistently creates and recreates and excites us with. 탁 (TAK) is a Korean producer that started making songs for kpop artists in 2016. You've already reacted to a couple of songs he has worked on, Imagine by Key and Twinkle by Lovelyz. I think a good way to get a sense of his style is to listen to one of his remixes, assuming you know the original song. He did an official remix of Twice's TT, check it out (and make sure to listen the whole way through!): kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKnSXn2Fn9-Jas0 He released his own album called VOICE in 2016, here's a track called Upper City from that album: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZiafYybq5eGaZY He has a soundcloud page: soundcloud.com/tak_music Some other kpop songs he worked on: AIR by Infinite Roller Coaster by MONSTA X Shining Star by Lovelyz Like U by Lovelyz Beyond This Moment by Good Day IF by Golden Child What Happened? by Golden Child What Are You Doing? by Apink Wanna Be (My Baby) by Wanna One Be With You by fromis_9 Think of You by fromis_9 24 by Boys24 Other official remixes he did: FLOWER (Feat. 칸토) (TAK Remix) by Bada KNOCK KNOCK (TAK Remix) by MXM (BRANDNEWBOYS) Christmalo.win (TAK Remix) by Seo Taiji

PLEASE DO THE SM COMPARISON VIDEO!! I’ve been wondering about this forever and it would be so good to hear professionals put it to words!! YES yes yessssss this is so great

I'm still not over the song, the MV, everything! It's like the base of a SHINee song with NCT's own colour in it, and as a stan of both group, I'm absolutely living for that song right now. The best of two worlds coming together in one song. And a big yes for the explicative video! YES!

As a longtime SM stan, YES PLEASE to the SM song breakdown!! For Superhuman in particular, I thought it was very SHINee's Dream Girl + EXO's Tempo.

Umu's reaction is my reaction literally. best reaction ever. best reactors ever. best song ever. idk how to live.
@larkenwen86955 жыл бұрын
You're going to have to deliver the in-depth analysis on Superhuman's parallels to Shinee's repertoire, girl! You have me and TONS of other classical musicians who only studied up to AP music theory in high school and played music competitively only up until college (rip), but continue to follow musically innovative groups like EXO, NCT, Shinee, and other SM and non-SM groups. So watching your channel is kind of the only consistent tether I have to music theory, and I can't think of a better way to keep learning things I never knew before! Also there's such a feeling of intimacy and connection to your faves when you're able to understand what makes their music tick. So thank you, Umu and team, for your hard work on this great resource for all fans! Just know that former fallen-off-the-wagon classical musicians are especially grateful for what you do :)
@srds10695 жыл бұрын
Yup! I would like to see a video where you say why is classic SM in general and why Shinee in particular because that's the first(the Shinee-esque feel, especially in the harmonies) thing that came into my head too!

Your reaction at 4:47 was me throughout the entire song! 😂 I also saw them in Newark, and after seeing this live I was just counting down the days till they released the MV! It did not disappoint- the song just builds and gets better and better as it goes on! IT'S AMAZING 🙌 Glad you guys also loved it!

Honestly, one of KPOP best song ever... I'm glad that this song is doing well internationally and South Korea can continue their prejudice towards NCT by not even willing to check out this masterpiece.. They did the same with GOT7's Eclipse.. It's sad because some great songs from boy groups are being slept on..

When antis go throw shit at nct’s music/sound, I always go to your reactions and be reminded that they can all go salty, but even the musically knowledgable peeps appreciate their sound as much as fans do, and it makes one’s day a little better. Thank you for your kind words!
