Lol well Procon-Ten was a system that allowed to retract the steering wheel onto the dash done with an iron cable connected to the firewall right behind the engine. So in case of collision when the engine moves towards the rear of the car it will press this piece in the firewall therefore retracting the steering wheel to avoid hitting the driver's head on the steering wheel. This is a non-airbag steering wheel mechanism. Cheers!

That was it‘s primary objektive: move the steering wheel out of the drivers heads trajectory in case of a head-on crash (and tension the seatbelts). Airbags were still expensive in the early eighties and some folks (especially with Audi) were anxious they might go off at the wrong moment.

It has 2 modifications, eibach springs with slightly more spring rate and 10mm drop and a BBR GTI exhaust to give it a bit more sound. I don't know if it's the springs or different suspension tuning in the RF but the car leans so progressively and grips so well on michelin PS5 tires that I never experienced this suden things that Jason is describing. I got the car used WITH the mods already done, so maybe that's all it needs?

Jason, TDi was first seen on Fiat Croma 1.9 Diesel in 1988 if we’re talking about direct injection diesel turbo engines. Developed by Fiat Powertrain, patent then sold to Bosch, then implemented in VW’s. The Fiat engine was a 1.9 litre 90hp diesel, pretty much unheard of in std cars at the time. The base of the engine (but in 16V form) could be found for decades even in GM cars like Opel/Vauxhall's and Saab's, after Fiats infamous deal with GM which in turn got Fiat Group some pretty horrible heavy platforms/gearboxes (that breaks) for Fiat GrandePunto, Croma, Alfa Romeo 159, Brera, Spider etc.
