LOL. Hustled a BMW X3 2.0l turbo hire car on winter tyres (in early spring) on the Stelvio Pass. Funniest time ever and best time. First time on the Pass. My co-driver almost vomited. When we reached the top, brakes were smoking (he thought something was on fire.) Very memorable.

As a MK7 GTI owner. I love FWD a lot. It's so much fun once you set it up right and utilize certain techniques. Tuning out the understeer bias via beefy RSB and suspension tuning (softer front, stiffer ear), and then utilizing techniques like late braking, trail braking, lift off etc. With a good set of tires and brakes. Absolute fun. Especially if you have the Performance Pack lsd. Mine is nonPP, so I'm looking to add a Wavetrac. But as it sits right now, my car is dialed to be fast and fun. A proper Hot Hatch experience, and certified canyon ripper.

The 2009 Ford Escape got new VVT heads, a slight bump in compression and some more aggressive timing for that extra 40hp. I put one of these in a Mazda 6 and with a stand alone and exhaust made 230whp so maybe 275 crank.

I remember buying parts for my 16V Scirocco (I did a lot of that) in the early 2000's and seeing the posters for the retro-styled van concept back then. If only they'd done it sooner we'd have it with some awd ICE options to choose from.

I haven’t driven a GT4 in particular but I do have an early pre smog 308 GTB and would definitely agree with your assessment. However I did do a couple of small reliability things like a Pertronix ignition hidden in the distributor to get rid of the points, a gear reduction starter, and a Birdman fuse block so it won’t burn itself to the ground. I wouldn’t change anything about the way it drives, sounds, or looks though. Did you do any reliability upgrades to the GT4?

If we’re not talking about major engineering issues, then both the E39 M5 and E46 M3 were perfection out of the box. There was nothing either M-car could be faulted for, and both served their purposes well. Again, not talking about rod bearing, subframe issues etc, because not every car suffered the same fate. I would also argue that out of the box, the Maserati Quattroporte (2005-2012) was perfection, with the choices coming down to which gearbox you preferred and face-lift or not. I had the DuoSelect and I quite liked the “animal” nature that came along with that gearbox, plus it was the closest thing next to a true manual that was available. Few other cars come to mind, though I’ve not driven, are Lotus Carlton, R53 Cooper JCW, Audi RS2 Avant and Toyota Landcruiser (J60/70) series

A quick wiki search shows the 2009 ford escape gained cam torque actuated vvt, mostly responsible for the 40hp gain. Which I don't think is too surprising, as mazda and jaguar were able to make like, 20 hp gains from the 3.0 duratec just by fiddling with the head/valves in them. They seem like really underappreciated engines. I'd love to drive something with the svt 2.5, or even a 3.0 swapped Miata (apparently there's a kit?).

RNG episode idea: when one of you mentions the car the other should search their spreadsheet for the same car. It would be interesting to see how many you've both driven and differing opinions.

I mostly learned to drive in a Citroen CX 2400 Pallas with the three speed C-matic gearbox. Such a wacky car, but cool in a lot of ways. Now Citroen have actually pulled out of the Australian market, which is probably a good thing since Stellantis has only continued the de-werdification of the Citroen brand that started with the PSA years.

I expected more from the Cammisa Juke review. That car was way ahead of its time! The first car with a split headlight design. Arguably the first cuv of all time, a segment that would go on to define the 2010s. One of the first SUVs to prioritize handling. As confirmed by Jason who said that it had excellent body control. He also said it drove better than cube or versa I rest my case 🤷
@aprtur6 күн бұрын
It's such an under appreciated car, and honestly, I'm glad I had the chance to own a Nismo RS with the 6 speed. For a car that is so divisive on the internet, I had tons of people complement it, and surprisingly had a number of people change their mind after going for a ride in it (I attribute that 100% to how nuts the RS was). Nissan stuck their neck out on the Juke, for sure, but it paid off ten fold, especially for how popular they were (are?) in Europe.

I love these RNG reviews, but my favorite part is the disparity sometimes. It'll be like "Okay the number is 780." and it'll go: Jason: Okay... I had a 2008 Toyota Camry, base model. DTM: I drove a... Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe, one of two. 😂
@daltonklinkenberg6 күн бұрын
*gives number Jason: I drove this awful SUV that was ugly and smelled, hated this car. Derek: I drove this ultra rare dream car. They only made three of them, I've driven four of them on a Sunday in France. Decent car but broke down and waited for the owner's private jet to pick us up.
