Hi Symo and Ann. As an older mother and a grandmother there is something I have observed about our girls from the Kikuyu community in the employment field today. As I brought up my children who are in your age bracket we would employ Kikuyu girls as "maids". Most of them were pry sch dropouts ( after class 8). They would stay in employment and were respectful and committed to their work . We were therefore able to mentor the younger women in our community by having them in our homes and most of them were coming to Nairobi or other major towns for the first time from ushagu as they became maids. In fact they are the same women who are in big businesses or with well grounded families today and you would never know unless they tell you that they started as housegirls. They are also not so bitter and angry about life cos they came from "handu mamenyereirwo na makamenyerera andu acio mamamenyereire". We were also able to establish lifelong friendship with some of them and they also later employed other girls from our community and mentored them. Today our children cannot get Kikuyu housegirls cos their first question is "kuri na mwana?". The Luyhia and Ugandans are the ones being employed in Kikuyu houses as our girls go to Arab countries or Look for other means of earning a living which sometimes are unlawful. Ann and others keep telling us about the horrible experiences in the middle East countries and some come back maimed or dead all in the name of proving that they can make it on their own. Many end up sending all the money to men in the name of love which is one sided. Even their relatives including parents take advantage of them by spending the money they send them ati wawawekee or to buy plots for them or even built and when they return to Kenya they are bitter, angry and depressed. They have nobody to answer their very deep questions cos they didn't get genuine older friends outside their families. To them, to be a housegirl among wakikuyu ni kuji-lower sana and when they do "matirenda gwathwo muno na matikwenda kundu gwi ciana"- only a few have the patience of being a housegirl. How do we help our daughters in this generation at such a time when many men are lost in drugs and alcohol yet they are their husbands and boyfriends and also our sons? Although they refuse to take care of small children and old people among us, they take care of Arab's children and old people under harsh treatment. Sometimes when some of our girls get employed in our people's families- you know we don't have strict rules like in Arab countries- they sometimes deliberately destroy families of their employers by having relationships with the husbands or boyfriends. How do we help our girls in this generation to be patient, have faith in God and to agree to be mentored especially when they have good employers? When you help another woman to take care of her children as she does other things that bring income in the family, that woman will treasure you if they are like those of our generation. Think about it our daughters and be very disciplined in deeds, words and even sexually. Only that can make us to trust one another. To those who are employing please treat your sisters well in your houses.
@leahgithua67282 жыл бұрын
Am humble while replying this to you 😔you know mkikuyu ni kutafuta pahali pesa ziko kwa wingi and that's why the majority of them are in the middle East Country nitafanyaje kazi ya elfu 8k 12k ya mtoto mdogo wakati huko gulf na 28 -30k wacha wangada wafanye coz hata currency yao iko chini
@agneswanjau5592 жыл бұрын
@@leahgithua6728 well noted and well understood. Some must go out these but again we need to have a second thought in all that we do please. The children that make many go out there many times get neglected and angry. My concern was that the option of being employed in Kikuyu homes where one can learn so so much and be mentored is rarely considered by our girl the go to the gulf. My thought is that most girls should go there after they have tried employment in Kenyan homes. The gulf should be like a university. Some go there too young and green andbthey have no confidence to know what to say or do in times of challenges.

@@agneswanjau559 well said 👏
@alicehappiness5092 жыл бұрын
Very well said👍. I look at it this way,the number of girls coming back in coffins and those pleading for help after horrible mistreatment is rising. Before you decide to undergo mental and physical torture in a foreign country because of a few thousands,think about yourself,family and future. A househelp in Kenya can earn 8k... personally I pay mine 10k with 1kid. This girl has the freedom to visit her family over the weekend,upgrade herself by taking up a course,meeting up a potential partner to marry and can easily leave if she feels she's not bn treated well. Let's learn to number our days and ask for God's counsel,He never goes wrong. Seek His wisdom. For the few who finish thr contract and come back safe we thank God for you but just a quick question,is it worth the phycological effect? Mwisho,the Kenyan gvnt MUST provide an environment for young ppl to work or get employment and also consider laws to protect househelps in the gulf. God's blessings.
