Welcome to the finale of 73 Questions with ND MD. This video, and this series, highlights different medical specialties to give you a better idea of what it is like in the life of a full time attending or resident physician...and now healthcare professional students of various healthcare careers or programs! On this episode, Dr. Will Flanary (also known as Dr. Glaucomflecken across his millions of followers), an attending Ophthalmologist, walks us through his passion for one of the most sought after and highly requested specialties in this series. This is a field for the physicians who desire the skillset of microsurgery and have a passion for drastically improving quality of life through life changing vision treatment. Listen to his memorable stories, excitement, and insightful passion that makes Dr. Flanary an outstanding surgeon and inspiration to millions who desire a career in ophthalmology, and to a greater extent, a career in medicine. Thank you Dr. Flanary for your time and for giving us a look into the life of a Ophthalmologist!
And thank you, the viewer. Whether you see this the first day this is uploaded or a decade after, thank you for finding this channel and this 73Q series that has taught me so much over my time in medical school. I hope you learned as much as I did as I close the curtains on this chapter of the channel. I am eternally grateful for the opportunities this series has given me and the immense amount of mentorship and friendship I have gained with each guest. My only hope is that if one person sees or hears these stories, we would have gained one more better doctor or better person in this world.
Find all about Dr. Flanary's empowering sketch comedy and his deeper story of perseverance as a cancer and heart attack survivor at his website: glaucomflecken.com
And if you haven't already, check out his growing podcast for more in depth conversations with healthcare leaders, Knock Knock, Hi! with the Glaucomfleckens (glaucomflecken.com/podcast)

Dr. G's answer to "If you could change one thing about the medical field right now, what would it be?" is probably the best answer to this question ever. Affordable and accessible care is the most important thing we need right now and my generation is working on changing that. Like he said, it's easy to keep your head and and just simply do your job, but more healthcare workers are speaking up about it in hopes for change. /thread.

Wow! I just discovered your series! . I’m an 80 year old woman. My husband has lots of health issues. About 4 years ago he had a very bad stomach bleed, almost lost him. The resident at that time kept me informed about his condition and tests. I remember him calling me at four in the morning to come down as he was in critical condition. The doctors eventually found the bleed and closed it. I the resident was at the end of his rotation. I thought he’d be great as an internist with his good bedside manner but turned out he was going into opthamology! Many of your videos remind me of some of the doctors we encountered during his many hospital stays( particularly the “hospitalist” one. I know you don’t particularly think out healthcare system is good, but from what we experienced as seniors couldn’t have been better.! Thanks so much for your funny videos and didn’t realize you yourself was acting in them.❤️❤️❤️

Your answer about how patients have high expectations is so spot on and I feel is relevant to all specialties in medicine. I’m an emergency physician and patient expectations just over the past 5 years have been so insane man. Everyone wants fixed now, wants answers now, and will be livid if you do not get them what they want.

Its a consequence of the abundance of availability. Everything is at everyones fingertips. All of our patience is reduced, so our patients become.... less.. patient. Watch that asian dudes standup on this. "Prime now. Never leave your house. One pen bleghhhhh want it now with some napkins in another box fly it across and ship now!!" Guess what - we all did it to ourselves buddy.
