I always find reading the ultrasound very confusing, as I’m not that good with 3D orientation, do you have any tips on this? 😆 Anyways, great content as always, best of luck with residency!

What is the main difference between a CRNA and MD Anesthesiologist, meaning job duties. I don't know what I want to pursue
@NDMDКүн бұрын
MD definitely gives more options for sub-specialization (pain medicine, regional, OB/GYN, crit care, CT) and usually oversees more rooms and get priority for more complex cases. CRNA is a lot more focused on one room a day and typically more bread and butter but both are great options in a great field! both need a critical care background to do well though!

On a scale of 1-10, how would you suggest an ultrasound elective if you're interested in anesthesia. Does it help?
@NDMDКүн бұрын
definitely helps. especially with access in the OR and ICUs where anesthesia typically rotates through. it will set you above and beyond your co-residents to have a strong background in it

And if you're fed up, come to Germany! The working conditions over here are certainly not perfect either, but still seem to be better than in the American health system. Costs of living and rents are definitely lower and we're always in need of qualified medical doctors and staff...

@@NDMD Sleeping Giant and Lake Wintergreen aren't bad places to go either. I lived there for years. YNHH is a great hospital to learn. That being said the quality of living was a tough part of living there, and I would probably only consider moving back there for CRNA. Hang in there!

@@NDMD for sure!! Especially in super sick patients if they want access prior to placing a central line, we have 4 inch catheters we can place in the larger upper arm veins quite quickly (instead of a PICC or midline which takes a lot more time).

Idealisism vs actuality. Im seeing this now going through MD. And like yourself, heading to anesthesiology. I find that the overwhelming intensity both mentally (stress, loneliness, and depression), and physicially (exhaustion, and overall health). I'm very pro business and understand that it is critical having that as an option.
