So they went out in search of peace and took a life of recluse which is the most hard task in the world. If you want to become a Doctor or Scientist or Engineer you can definitely achieve that feat because it needs a certain time to achieve it but for a recluse it may take almost the entire life to become enlightenment. Even many great personalities had embraced those holy religious teachings at end of their life, like B.R Ambedkar Who embraced Buddhism. Because they realised the ultimate goal in their life. In Vedic period polygamy was present because most saintly persons left their house so most women became unmarried. So according to Vedic rule, a man may be unmarried but a woman must be married. So at that time, one man got married with multiple women and used to live their life smoothly.

The real Manusmriti was not a book of law rather a book of human life of Vedic age. It described how the people of that time used to live & they traded with different people like Meluha, Mesopotamia, Sumerian, Egyptian and the South eastern countries like Combodia, Indonesia etc. Even it contains the ancient "Gandhrva Vivah". And this different types of people have been changed to different Castes by the British in 1776 when this book was translated from Sanskrit to English by Sir W. Jones. Dr Romila Thapar, Dayanand Saraswati and even Annie Besant complained against this new and modified Manusmriti which Was intentionally distorted by the British government to exploit & gain superiority over Indians. The real book of Manusmriti does not contain any of the cast system. This came to light when B.R Ambedkar burnt the modified Manusmriti against Untouchability. If you had read details about this holy book then you would not have complained about it. Read more.

Overall a thought provoking discussion. However, I strongly disagree with the undertones that people in "abroad" (I am assuming Western countries) have more liberal mindset and Indian society is backward. In USA still equal pay to men and women is not the norm. Women are often projected as object of desire and someone whose main responsibility is becoming mother and raising family (You can refer to tones of literature available in the form of books and films). Very poor percentage of women in workforce and that too in science and technology. Also, in USA women were granted right to vote in 1920 and USA got independence in 1775. So, while projecting that Indian society has problem we do not need to say that everything is rosy in "abroad".

Something everyone surprisingly missed out is the norm or order of the society is marriage, which is an institution in itself serving functions, because it regulates sexual relationship while fulfilling the basic task of procreation. While personal rights and liberties to not get married have to be respected , while at this point, if all the people say that they no more will procreate or even if they do, it will be outside familial ties/marriages, civilization will drop back to the times of apes.
