The way Neal Morse blends gospel into prog is uncanny and unmatched.

The fact is that he is the best amongst us and by us I mean ALL of music. Mike Portnoy is the biggest student and fan of music that I know, and he would play for Neal for free. That should tell you something. The task of filling his shoes in Spock's Beard is massive but I'm such a fan that I am driven to grow my toes a little.
@leandronc8 жыл бұрын
+Ted Leonard When I found Neal left Spock's Beard I was quite sad, but I was happy to see SB doing great music without Neal, putting their own spin on the classic sound. I mean, Neal is a beast from another world but I've really liked the albums since you joined, thanks for some awesome music!

This comment will likely never be seen by anyone, but...The Call's crowning jewel is Randy's pedal's at the close of Bill's solo at 8:15-9:20....brilliant! Portnoy is absolutely on fire in this song as well .

Excellent song. I'm a progressive rock artist and this song defines the genre. Moving, apocolyptic at times, off kilter to mimic life's imbalances. Just supurb. -Paul

Busy artist. Dozens of epic albums. 5 Transatlantic (all amazing, tho Whirlwind my fav), 3 TNMB ('15, '17, '19) each better than the other, and many Neal Morse solos and testimonials. (Loved the latest: "Sola Gratia") And still finds time in the midst to do a SPOCK'S BEARD reunion, to perform the LP SNOW in entirety. And hundreds of free concerts in Church Halls...

This song reminds me of Roundabout by Yes. It’s a flawless piece of progressive rock with many distinct sections, it’s vocals are equally as incredible as the other instruments, all members are giving 110%, and while both bands have longer, arguably better songs, both Roundabout and The Call accomplish what those songs accomplish in half the time. I am definitely a huge fan of epics in progressive rock, but if I were to show an “outsider” one modern (or any era) progressive rock song, this would be it. Cannot wait for the new Neal Morse Band album, Innocence and Danger. Can’t wait to see how they top this epic with the two new (and massive) epics on that album!

@@prosoloist That’s awesome! I absolutely loved Innocence and Danger, and still listen to it quite often! I was absolutely blown away by both of the songs on Disc 2, and each song on Disc 1 shows how good the band is at writing more “accessible” prog songs! I unfortunately didn’t get to catch them on tour, but the new live Morsefest DVD in support of this album just was announced, so I’ll make sure to buy that! I’m also really excited about Eric’s new project outside of NMB. Though little information is know about it, the prevailing theory is that Diego, the ex-keyboard player of Haken, will be one of the other members. Eric has said that it won’t interfere with his role in NMB, so I’m really happy that there will now be 2 bands that I can listen to when I want to hear Eric’s playing!
