Apparently ATC cleared FedEx to land after FedEx reached out to ATC 5 miles to runway by tht time southwest was holding short on runway and ATC cleared sw for takeoff and sw took off slower than usual causing FedEx to catch up and had to circle back

SW was slow on the take off, usually it's pushed an gone. FedX had to be above 200knots, tail wind full on. WOW!

@@flygliders I’m sorry to say but if I ever get a flight simulator and go on ANY major realism servers I am GOING to be “that guy” who flies a MiG-21 loaded with every munition out there towards the most populated area just to see what happens. That and maybe I might enjoy the occasional prop plane “Frogger” driving across the landing or takeoff area for the fear factor of a “near miss.”

Question to those in the know… When ATC said “Southwest Abort” without their callsign, is it possible that multiple Southwest planes may hear that and not know who the message is intended for? I’m curious why the SW plane didn’t abort the takeoff? Obviously a complete f-up overall from atc.

It was FedEx that told Southwest to abort. Southwest couldn't abort likely because they were above v1

FedEx is the one who said SW abort. Hence some of the confusion. ATC thought it was SW who said abort, which is why ATC said turn right when able.

I used to fly for Saudia. Things would get tight at Heathrow. We would tanker fuel in and land at max ldg weight with an approach speed of 160. Everybody else was around 130. ATC would invariably forget this and we'd wind up landing with an aircraft still rolling!

I have had that in my career when on the G/A . Its very scary and my only advice is to do a side step asap to keep the other aircraft in sight.We got too damn close for comfort but obviously survived the experience. Allegedly the other a/c (the one on the T/O roll) did not hear "abort". Perhaps "Stop" would be better phraseology.

Clickbait, and it got me too. Very well crafted though. But this video short does not show the actual conditions, events or even the actual runway where it happened. It's just an exciting video montage/overlay of two separate aircraft shot at another airport in good weather, edited together to approximately represent the recent Austin near-miss incident for viewers' entertainment. That's not necessarily a bad thing if the producer is not being deceptive about it. A lie by omission is still a lie.

Anyone saying this is a simulation, there's a great video about it, it's REAL: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i3ibY5mhoqiEmMU FedEx is the one who said 'Southwest abort, FedEx is on the go ' they didn't want them to take off into them as they did a go around. That's why you don't hear their call number. But Southwest has already passed V1 by that point, there's a pause that is edited out here so it seems like SW just started moving. They were too fast by then.

It's a sim (MSFS 2020, to be exact) re-creation of real events. In fact, the actual event happened in the dark with poor visibility but if the re-creation was that accurate, we wouldn't be able to see anything, just like the tower controllers couldn't see this.
