British military and SOPs go together like tea and biscuits. “Near surface warfare” it’s perfect, the British military is one of the most well oiled and honed machines of war on the planet. We didn’t invent war but we sure as hell mastered it. Maybe what you get when your island sees nearly 2000 years of continuous conflict. Coming into contact with some of the most advanced or brutal empires in history along the way.

Today's battle space is moving so fast, the very idea that you may be facing off against an adversary that isn't even physically in the same space as you is a whole new level to process. This means we have to be hot on our coms, emcon, terrain appreciation. But most importantly our ability to locate the source of the threat which might be hundreds of miles away. Remote users have changed the threat level. Yet it still seems prudent to keep conventional systems functional as the only way to hold a space is in person. I think the term rubber necking needs making into an acronym.

This is true, best not used from a concealed location on a neer peer or peer target. But if in a larger element that is not concealed or in a faster paced environment (like being shot at) it could be the difference between getting a shot on target on an MG position and... well not...

you can't just say something is effective without determining the factors that actually make it effective, and whilst drones may afford slightly better accuracy they certainly don't travel as quick as mortar shells leaving a mortar. And even if you had a full section manning these drones you wouldn't deliver the same sustainment and cost efficiency granted by a mortar system and a trained crew

Excellent work there. But the Army needs more funding and more recruitment. The government must stop spending money on illigal immigrants and send them all home imminently. They currently cost the tax payer £17million per day and rising as the new gov plans to open yet more "migrant" hotels. This money could be used on the military and truly be a strength for our nation and make the likes of Russia and China think twice about expansion via violent action. Secondly, recruitment. The army must drop all DEI enisitives and "Op Team Work". DEI has driven division into the Army, none stop political bickering and language policing has made the Army a toxic work environment, empowering weak people and raising them into positions of power. Rank must be earned on merit alone. Constant briefings about the latest political trends now needing to become part of military life do nothing but draw time, effort, resources and focus away from lethality. Remove women from combat roles immediately, change the fitness standards back to their previous higher standards and hold women in all positions to that higher "male" standard. My own experience in the Army was that 9/10 women were not fit enough for the role despite passing the "female standard" of fitness, on top of this they were capable of far less work load in the field. The 1/10 exceptional women who did meet the "male" standards were excellent themselves but naturally let down by the other females, they would even complain themselves that the other women give them a bad name. Make these changes, promote these changes in your recruitment and you will see strong motivated men and exceptional women flock to the Army as an institution where they can be proud soldiers rather than feel like a corporate office worker that is made to sleep outside once in a while. Also, make basic training HARD again. It was too easy when I went through and has become even more of a soft push over with instructors not even aloud to shout at recruits. What a mess. I left in 2017 and from what I have heard from my friends still in it has only gotten worse. Make these changes, Make the Army Great again, for the sake of Great Britain.

Is there not a way to automate identifying and destroying drones? I mean the big gun looks futuristic and cool and all, but having ground forces constantly looking up as much as they're scanning the horizon seems like it might be diverting their attention a bit too much. Surely there's something ground forces could bring with them that could work as an aerial defence from drones? Something they could just set up and use to protect them while they're fighting the enemy so they can focus on the ground. I dunno. I'm rather clueless and don't understand the challenges of such a thing. But with the technology out there, it sounds feasible to my ears.

Too much reliance on tech on the ground, this can be blocked or captured and suddenly everything and everyone is visible and compromised... Just ask anyone soldier who spent more than two weeks on the ground with their own devices and tech, it gets damaged, soaked and stops to work. Soldiering is a mucky and dirty job, throwing away traditional methods is a bad mistake.

@nathang4570 12 күн бұрын
I'm confused by your comment. The Brits helped train Ukrainian soldiers on conventional war fare tactics. As the war has progressed the technology has changed, as such the Brits are now training to use this technology as are the Ukrainians, just the Ukrainians have to do "on the job" training... The only stupidity here is the government spending £17million a day to house illigal migrants rather than building a reasonable sized army.
