1) as an Orthodox Jew your mistaken with the fact that the kotel isn’t connected to the temple. In actual fact this is part of the outmost wall of the 2nd temple. Not the inner sanctuary as some mistake. 2) holiness has different levels and the walking backwards is Bc this is considered the holiest place on earth that can be accessed. The whole of ISRAEL has a form of holiness but on a lesser level. Have a wonderful day.
